LOL SIX-SHOOTER I'm the same age, but I have to wait at least 5 years before I can afford to retire. But I can't wait to be free to enjoy life. Hopefully, God willing, I'll still be healthy enough to enjoy it.

I miss dial-up BBS'es (probably for the same reason I miss 23 channel radios). I ran one for a few years back in the late 80's - early 90's, before the WWW took off. The main thing that was nice about the local BBS systems back then was that it took a little technical ingenuity to hook up a modem, have a telecom program and call up a BBS. So the people that also were on the BBS were at least a little knowledgeable about what they were doing. which showed in the conversations. Kind of like the people you'd find on the 'A' channels on 23 channel CB back then.

Well, it seems we have a bunch of old folks here. I too am the same age, but I really have no plans at this time to stop working. Keeps my mind busy.

I turned 58 yesterday, unless something changes, I have just 2 more years. And yes, the money thing is a factor. But I made up my mind that I will just have to learn to live off of what will be coming in. Others that I know are working all that they can to save save save. Problem that I have seen with everyone who does this is after making all that extra cash from all that overtime, it is hard to retire and give up all the extra income. My strategy has been to not work any extra that I don’t have to, and the transition should be easier. Besides, if I have any “ extra”, I am sure the Gov. will find a way to get thair hands on as much as they can.

I'm more concerned with saving and saving and retiring later, only to contract some terminal illness and never being able to enjoy retirement. I've know a couple of people that this happened to. Retired at 65..... dead at 66.

I get a 3% pay raise every July 1st so since I retired making almost 98% of my salary when I was working & I retired in 2013 I now make more money than when I was going to work every day with no gas bill from my Dodge Quad Cab with a HEMI & no wear & tear on it either.Better yet is I never hear or see the IDIOTS that I worked for or the thousands of Criminals that I dealt with so retirement was a WIN WIN for me.If it gets any better than this I will be Dead & in HEAVEN I think. Wow! Well like i said, i cant wait to retire. Even if it means eating catfood and kool-aid. Hell, i like squirrel...and there's plenty of'm here in the catskills so I'll do just fine. Up in the mornin when i wake, not when the alarm clock wakes me. Every day is Saturday and every night is a Friday night of a three day weekend. That would only make me healthier! NO STRESS! I think trick is to get yourself debt free and never look back thats my goal, pay it all off over the next 5 years then start livin life. Im 55 and I'll be damned if I aint done by sixty! Six shooter you did it right.

This year another friend from child hood and CB buddy was murdered along with his wife. I called all of our old friends to let them know, and discovered another friend with alsheimers. Makes me not even want to wait 2 more years.

You never know how many tomorrows you have left. Might as well enjoy each one.

I myself usually only check in once a week nowadays. I should check in more as this seems to be one of the more active forums left. Seems that there are so many CB-related groups on Faceplant, that forums like this one suffer with less activity as a result. Shame as I much prefer the forum format as it lends itself better to serious discussions. I don't do Facebook, Instagram or whatever the newest social media fad is. Sometimes I feel a bit left out, but overall it has had no ill effects on my life. Heck I'm lucky if I watch an hour of TV per day. I do CB RADIO... the first Social Media.
