Hi, I am restoring an old Tram D201 (23 ch with PC boards from late 1976) that I picked up, and want to do it right. I have scoured internet forums and sites, posted questions, and found it quite a task to gather what is needed to tackle this, but I am having fun!
RESISTORS & CAPACITORS: ----------------------- * As suggested, I will start by replacing all high wattage resistors, and upgrading the 1w to 2, the 2w to 3, the 3w to 4, the 7w to 10, and the 15w (all I could find were two 10w to either put in series or parallel depending on the value used) for a total of 20w.
* I will also start with replacing all electrolytics and the two line filter caps. I am confident in my selection of 50uf and 100uf 500v caps to replace the multi-section caps. I am also confident in my selection of two .0047uF X1Y2 safety caps from line to ground, and a .1uF X2 rated cap across the lines.
But what about the rest of the electrolytic caps... what voltages should the 16v, 150v, 250v, etc. be increased to if any? Should any of the capacitance values be changed? How about the wattage of the hi wattage resistors... is increasing to the next higher wattage enough for all positions?
Thanks!!

I am going through the same exercise. I found that Mouser Electronics publishes the dimensions of their electrolytic capacitors. I measured mine prior to removal and replaced them with the largest maximum voltage rating that would fit into that physical space. Good luck to you!

Thank you, sir. I have received most of my parts (the exception being a cap, resistor, and molex replacement connectors for the BA board). When I am done replacing the resistors and caps, I will fire her up and see what happens. I have not turned the radio on since buying it at a swap meet so this could go all sorts of ways . Once things are looking successful, I will put together my master list of what I purchased and replaced to help the next guy. This was A LOT of work sorting out what was needed and then what to actually purchase for these replacements. It's silly to keep that to myself when so many others will go through this project.

It's good to upgrade certain resistors to higher wattage ones and certain caps such as the filters C624 and C5 to 500v along with C625 to 450v but the other caps are fine at the stock values. Upping the voltage level on caps that will never see that kind of voltage on them is kinda like putting 5 watt resistors in place of 1/4 watt ones. Never gonna make a difference and costs a lot more.

Thank you! Right, but that was my question at the top... any info on what values to upgrade and to what for Resistors and caps. I have scoured the forums and found a bunch of suggestions by Chris/2600 which were very helpful, but they are scattered through tons of posts over years and taken me a long time to collect his helpful recommendations. I want to save the next guy the trouble and post what I put together once I go through my Tram. Any more suggestions are greatly appreciated!

We use a "twice or better" upgrade to the power rating of resistors that this radio wants to overheat.
A 5-Watt where a 2-Watt is found.
A 2-Watt for original 1-Watt.
Not worth keeping a lot of 1-Watt resistors on hand, so a few half-Watt parts get a 2 Watt replacement.
The original file we used from the 80s to the 90s reflected resistors we had bought in bulk for really cheap. One old version says to parallel two 43K 2 Watt to replace a single 22k 2 Watt. Now we use either a wirewound or MO 5-Watt to replace the 22k 2 Watt part. It's what we can get these days. The 43k part was one we had gotten around 500 for really cheap. Only lasted about ten years.
Our overhaul file evolved over the decades. Don't know how many older revisions have circulated since the bad old dialup BBS days.
I'll post an updated file here soon.
