You want a SSB-AM 40 channel CB, but do not have a lot of money. Older CBs built before 1990 are not reliable due to capacitors failing or losing capacitance. In fact 1995 is my limit for an older CB. Other newer CB are too expensive and usually well over $100. However, one great performer that is an excellent performer is the Bearcat 980 SSB. These were built starting about 2010 so no capacitor issues. The radio sell new in the $150 range. This radio does everything right. Not too sensitive like many newer CBs causing a noisy receive. Very frequency stabile unlike some newer CBs. Used is about $70 on eBay, I bought one for $50. It needs a 120 volt AC to DC power supply. I believe 3 amps is enough power. I seen these on eBay for $10-$15. If very old, there is a capacitor inside that should be replaced of about 10,000 uF. It is marked with a negative stripe. Replace it observing proper polarity. Negative to negative and positive to positive. Requires soldering skills.
