Hi new to CB radio world. Need some help for a vintage set up for my old Dodge Coronet. Any one want to try to help? Found a cheap 70s or 80s unmolested appearing magnet mount antenna that looks just the part. However, testing it out prior to install, I found continuity btw the pin & nut of the PL259 connector. No kinks or visible damage to the cable. Couldn't toss it out, so started tinkering, naturally. The set up looked untouched, with nice foil under the magnet, not damaged or peeling. The plastic tower looks ok. Disassembled the cable from the antenna base, then tested the antenna and the chrome base and found continuity again. Further disassembly, found that the coil/insulated thingy has similar studs on both ends which have continuity even when removed from the base, and there was no obvious insulation at the nut attaching it to the base under the foil. What is going on here? Are insulator pieces somewhere in the base missing in the assembly? I'm throughly confused. Any one got some ideas on what I have here? Jim, Evansville IN

The Ebay link that you provided in your answer is not a antenna for use with the frequencies of cb radios. It's design is for use with a cell phone as stated in the paperwork of the packaging.

Well I rebuilt it with some plastic spacers/insulators solving the continuity issue, but ending up getting some erratic SWR readings particularly at channel 1, so probably best to dump it and get a trunk lid mount that I can ground properly I think. Thank you for trying to help.

The matching circuit in the base of the antenna will cause you to see continuity with a meter even when it is working properly.
