Should it be a concern that the spot button produces no tone on a mark 3 that otherwise works superb? Thanks!

I’ve heard brownings that DO produce a spot tone though.

Browning AM-only transmitters have a tiny neon lamp in a circuit called a relaxation oscillator. The original CB "Tweety bird" noise from the 60s used two of these bulbs with one oscillator driving the other.
A very-dim glow can be seen from this lamp, since the current needed to produce a tone is far less that what you use to light up a pilot indicator.
They left it out of the sideband transmitters. Those only give you a carrier from "Spot".
Still plenty enough to peak the receiver's S-meter and zero in on the channel frequency.

Mine just produces a carrier, it's the AM/SSB transmitter.

And if your mike is wired for VOX, you'll get acoustic feedback "howl" from the Spot button. Unless you have moved the mike gain to a front-panel knob, and turn it down.

It produces a carrier only for mine, too.
