I acquired a K40 with magnetic mount for free,, this unit looks ok no cracks or damage. The SWR is at 3 across Channel 1-40. Any Ideas why I am can not adjust the SWR?

So, do you suppose now you know why it was free?
I have suspicions.
Haven't tried to take one of those apart in decades, but seems to me there was a tiny ceramic disc capacitor either under or inside the coil. All the radio's drive power passes through this capacitor. Too much RF power will pop it, and that's all she wrote. Can't remember the steps for digging it out, but I don't think you can do it without damage to the coil or mount or both.
We just identified that one as "not repairable" a long while back. Long enough to forget the details.

Well I gave it away to someone that could use it for parts.

I also don't remember the procedure, but I recall it wasn't a fun job.
