What happened to all of the Olde Schoolers on this forum? Someone out there is bound to have their fingers in a tube rig. I guess by now the Turner JM+2U mics are old school. I use one on my 148 GTL-DX for mobile and the switch wore out. I searched my vintage Turner parts and found two parts mics so removed a switch from one and installed it in mine and I'm up and running like new. I also finished re-capping my Hallicrafters S38 shortwave receiver this afternoon and put it back on line. It seems to be running fine now. At first it was drifting and acting all crazy but now it has settled down. Really sensitive with a great clear tube sounding audio. And I just bought a Hickok tube tester, it's my lucky day!

I'm not sure what model it is, I'm picking it up today after work. It's a mutual conductance model for sure. I have a nice Eicho 667 but it takes an adapter to check 6LQ6 tubes and I don't have it.

Hello old schoolers, recently got a working Buddy Base, wonderful Transmitter sounds like old tube Browning, the receiver ok but no rejection, this trans fired up 15W,swinging to 40W, everyone around here was impressed with the audio quality, now i have acquired 3 buddy receivers, & 4 transmitters, 4 speakers, took 5 years to find them!

I've never heard of the Buddy radios let alone seen one but I like the hard core olde school appearance! How is the transmit and receive audio? How is the receive in general? What about adjacent channel and image rejection? I would imagine that the transmitter has a separate crystal for each channel, maybe not. Are you going to put out of band frequencies in it? Use a VFO or crystals to do it? What frequency does the transmit oscillator run on? Is there wide banding involved? Is there acoustic feedback from the receiver when engaging the transmitter? Might make a heck of a nice machine.

Tombstone, well its got a sliding/tune receiver-poor rejection... 24 crystals in trans- great loud audio, comes with a large transfomer, it has a switchable diode pack to run 2 differnet power tubes, one way it keys 3-4 watts, the other 15watts, of the 4 transmitters.. 2 have the bigger power tubes, The best way to run this trans is to plug a non-amp D104 into a Demco modulator into the TX11-B transmitter and inter connect to a Browning 2700 Browning receiver, I've heard this combo a few yrs ago and I've been lookin ever since,,,, when I first got this and fired it up this puppy keyed up 15watts swinging up to 40watts, I was really happy! right now only one trans working, they all light up, but each has a different mic jack, but they are all in excellent condition and super clean inside, when i figure out how to get some pics of the insides i'll post em' DQRR

the big transformer allowed you to convert this radio for 10 meter use by changing the stock tubes-2e26/6v6 to the bigger 6146Final and 5881 modulator tube, how they re-tuned the receiver...I don't know. They only made about 600 or so of these, I've got 3matched sets,#531,#414,# 264. In my opinion the transmitter gives Browning some stiff competition for as audio quality!!!DQRR

Sounds wicked depending on how difficult it is to get extra channels. Too bad about the poor rejection on the receiver. Is the Browning R2700 any better? I know my R27 is kind of loose with the receive. Do you have a Demco modulator? I'd like to have one just to have it around at the ready.

I have a Lafayette Comstat 25, Tram D201, Cobra 135, Hy-Gain 623, and a few others. In fact I don't have a CB radio that's newer than 25 years old. Even my 2 "10 meter" radios are at least 10 years old.

Wow! You guys are real old schoolers.
I would like to recreate a period correct base station like the one I had set up in late 1973. I had a new Lafayette Comstat 25B (189.00), new D&A Raider (169.00), new Starduster antenna hanging from tree branch because I had no pipe(39.00?), 50' of RG8 coax, used Turner +2 desk mic. (15.00).I bought all of the new equipment at Lafayette Radio in Nortfield, NJ (near Atlantic City). I really sounded like crap, but it was a life changing experience!

Im never without a tube type.with 5 Johnson 223's, 5 Blackfaces and 1 Robyn T123B. I thought the T123 was Robyns first tube base.Has anyone ever heard of or saw a Robyn 24 ?Ive only saw one that was on ebay a few months ago.It looks just like a old Courier 23, the chrome one with the black front. Just when you think you know all the models of bases produced by a specific company, along comes one you never heard of.For instance,Johnson.I thought Johnson only had 3 tube type basses, the Viking Whiteface,Messenger 2 Blackface and the 223,my old standby.Well, there was a Messenger 202 on ebay,It looked like the Blackface only it had a 23 channel selector on the front.Im still kicking myself for not bidding on it, and that was a month ago.
