I was wondering if anyone can tell me if this is a good unit? It's a Tram D300 ssb/am tranceiver base station 40 ch. It's in excellent working condition. A friend of mine is selling it. Since my radio was stolen almost a year ago, I was thinking of buying this one. Is Tram a real good radio? How about this model? Thanks for any help you can give me. Twilightzone

Twilightzone Well, on the one hand, the D300 was Tram's last base station radio made before they closed their doors for good. Because it was made right befor the company folded, there aren't a whole heck of a lot of them out there. On the other hand, there's really nothing special about the radio from a performance standpoint. It uses the same chassis as the Cobra 142, so performance will be similar.

Not my favorite Uniden chassis. Only single conversion. The cobra 148-2000 that followed was allot better!

Have to agree with Sandbagger and Mark4 on the D300. It was Trams last base station and I had to have one when they came out since I was a super Tram freak and bought a new Tram base whenever one was made. That said, it is definitly not one of my favorites (that statement will hurt if I ever I go to sell it ..lol).It doesnt have the best of ears even tuned up and is just a nice base to have if you collect Trams. I have a President Washington (old one) that is alot better in my opinion to the Tram D300 and very sensitive in the receive. Now if we start talking about the 201's...I will never say a negative comment about one of them as long as they are kept up on their maintenance. Like any other tube set out there, they need to be gone through every now and again and it can and does get expensive the older they get. I've been using my 2995DX as my main set and turned the D201 on the other day just to hear the difference, wow...what a beautifull receive in the old boy compared to transistors. I could hear people without alot of noise and with clairity that I believe you can only get with tubes. There I go again...ramblin on and on...Tram D300 = nothing special, just a good looking base and an average working base, and if you can get one for a good price pick it up since they seem to be selling for decent money and you shouldnt lose anything. Sorry for ramblin on ..Sniper OT2194

So in that case, yes The Madison has the double conversion 8719 board like the Cobra 148 and 2000. Similar but not identical.

I sure didt know that !! My washington hears so much better than my D300, you would swear it was 2 different chasis setups. Maybe my D300 could stand a lil tweaking like the washington !? Had it (D300)all tuned for being on frequency but didnt tell the tech to open her ears up ! Sniper OT2194
