Just put up a new SIRO ground plane. I have to say, it is a great antenna. Very good construction. I have a SWR of 1.1, my Mark III likes the match. I am seeing a higher output power and the same goes for my Galaxy. The A 99 that this antenna replaced was a real pain. And the Galaxy didn't always like the match between the two. The SIRO is [glow=red,2,300]Very high [/glow]on my recommend list.

I presume it is well constructed, and how long to put together???how many pieces etc. Where did you purchase it, the pipe company? ? My Maco is about 50 percent bent in half from Mr. Ike, so it needs replaced. Any info appreciated. DOCTOR/OT795

It has telescoping tubing. It has nylon sleeves at each joint. You secure each section with a #8 ss machine screw x 2. It has a heavy duty coil at the base that can handle 1 KW. It is 5/8 wave. They list the gain at 1.3 dbd, 3.45 dbi The ground plane elements are threaded into the base. Very well made. It is made in Italy. You can purchase them from H & Y And Cooper. They sell for just a little north of 100.00 I didn't buy this one. I got it in a trade w/ my Buddy. Yes, Tombstone I will give you a update after a while. So far, so good.

And for the question regardig how long to assemble. About twenty five mins. and I stopped once or twice to get a different tool. And when I started to move up the tubing I had to stop once in the garage to move it, as I was assembling the main section. If you take your time. It might be 30 - 35 mins. But like I said, it is a nice antenna. I have had astro planes. Antenna specialist 1/2 wave gnd plains, Mosley 3 element beams. A - 99's. This antenna, beats them all. To bad its not directional. I guy I got it from, also has the 4 element beam. I have mixed reviews on it. Overall, SIRO seems to be a good company.

It is tuned to the middle of the 27 MHZ band. At 25.75 MHZ you will see a 2.5 SWR. And at 28.25 MHZ the SWR is 2.0. It is a well engineered antenna. The mounting bracket and hardware are heavy duty. 3 U clamps to mount to your mast. It is DC ground 50 ohm.

Wow not bad. Heck, you could use it on 10 meters if you have a license to do so. A HF rig w/ an internal tuner would match up the rig and antenna great.

I purchased one yesterday at the pipe company...$133...it took 30 minutes putting together, my SWR is flat 1 to 1 , it is well constructed, and works good. I hear better, and talked to a friend 35 miles from here, and both ways 5 on the meter, I was running my Galaxy at 22 watts am..., satisfied so far..

Doc,
I think you will be very happy with the antennas performance. Like I said, no fuss on the SWR. It came in at 1.1 right off. Glad to hear you have had good results.

It has been 3 months now. I am just as happy today with the SIRO as the day I put it up. I just need to get it up a little higher. I will update at 6 months. 73

Sorry about the delay on the answer about the radials. They are around 24" This model has about 10 or 12 of them. A threaded stud about 5/16-3/8" threads into the base. It is now around 7 months since I put the SIRO on my push up pole. We have had a few 55-60 mph winds since it has been up with no issues. It needs to be about 10' higher to get the full benefit of the ground plane effect. But I have to say it is a great antenna for the money.

It's been 4 years now. Works just as good now as when I put it up. I will say, my buddy who has a 4 element beam. Has tried to get info from Siro direct. Not an easy task, but I think these Ground planes are worth the $. Very happy.
