Well, as one of my previous posts alluded, I have been saddled with a very low antenna height. Due to prodding by some members, I got motivated and welded some pipe together ( butt welded) into a 32' or so mast and stuck it up the other day. It is getting windy today, so I guess I will see if I can still weld. JUNIOR

OK. I might be able to help. I had similar issues. I then had help from other CBers. I dug a square hole 3' x 3' x3'. And I mean it was square ! We then went to a local metal supply place, and got two 3" x 5" L beams that were at least 1/4" thick, and length was about 7'. They were secured in the ground, with 3' in and 4' stick above the ground. Has a concrete delivery truck fill the hole with concrete. After 1 month of curing, we got a thick 22' schedule 40 galavanized pipe, and then another thinner 22" pipe as a mast, and stucl it inside the thicker pipe. I have an antenna up about 40", and no guy wires. It goes nowhere. The bottom thicker pipe barely moved in the wind, and the upper thinner pipe has some play which is fine, since you won't want it stiff. you want some play.

Jeres an update. We had winds in the 30 40 mph range most of the afternoon and into the evening, and I still have an antenna, ;D unlike others I have been hearing about. I guess I can still stick steel together.LOL. I still need to get it higher or get a small beam. Any hints on a SMALL inexpensive beam? Homemade, maybe??? I like the idea of the mast base. I Do you have it set up to lay down? How are you mounting the pipe to the angle? Pipe type and size?
Thanks for the help.
Junior.

I don't have anyquestions abou the mounting but a Maco 3 element , weighs about 11 pounds (light) and inexpensive . Lightweight means not very strong (tubed aluminium). Driver 19ft (little over 1/2 wave at 27.305 mhz) Boom is 11 ft long. TO take a look see M301 @ www.rrcom.com/pictures/macoantennas/macoants.html ...I'm not sure if this is what you are needing but hope I could help.. Works very well for me. If you want to build one yourself...complete deminsions are on the site

By the way, Grumpy, I came to the site about the same time you had some health problems. Even though we haven't talked , I hope you are feeling better. You have created an incedible site here for oldies, newbies and those of us with big gaps between the two. Merry Christmas
