I have a Uniden Grant XL that someone started to mod, then lost interest. Its had some pieces removed, a multiple-turn pot installed for the clarifier, etc...
I want to put it back to more/less original with nothing more than a standard alignment and tuning. I don't need it peaked (except possibly the RX). I know most shops can't handle an ssb radio...
Who in the area would be recommended to work on ssb radios? I am in the Reading area, and I know the local shops can't do it. The only one I know is DTB out of Carlilse possibly, but he's not real local...
Thanks for any leads...

Did you try Two Watt up there in Reading?

I asked 2-watt, he indicated he didn't have the equipment to handle ssb. It would be nice if he could do it, he's close by!

There aren't many options in this part of Pennsylvania anymore DTB is most likely the closest you will find. There is CB World down in Elkton,MD. He use to have a shop over in Gap, but he closed that up a few years ago. Kenny does good work, but that is a haul for you coming from Reading. Off the top of my head I can't think of anyone else around. Kenny does all of my non-tube work, so I really don't have to worry about going any place else!

I have Uniden Grant LT. They are basically the same (I got it from the horse's mouth. Emailed Uniden and ask about LT and LT). Anyway, I can send you pictures for the board. I did my own channel mod, and it works great. The only other mod is and open clarifier, and I did that, too. Maybe those pics and help you undo the damage.

Ehh, I don't trust myself to start digging around...
I'll probably just make the trip to DTB one of these days...

No problem. If you do need it, let me know.
FYI, The reason I emailed Uniden was that the XL was going for outrageous prices on ebay. New in box units were going upwards of $300. I found that ridiculous for CBs. So I found the LTs. I seached the net, and found differing opinions about them being and not being the same. So I decided to email Uniden. I got an email saying that it is exactly the same, except it has backlighted knobs (much better), and DSC circuit that can be turned off. I picked up a new one for $110.

I'll see if I can get hold of those guys on 14...they tend to be further north or west of me if I remember correctly? I think I remember talking to one of the channel 14 group that lives out on Shartlesville when I was tuning my amp/antenna.
I think there are *two* groups on 14 around me...on a clear night in the mobile, I was listening to another group over near Boyertown...

Does anyone know anyting about the Midland Black Max 40 Channel Radio made in 1987, I think? Good radio to be modded out or what? Some feedback, please.

Well, got down to DTB this past weekend...
Had him set the radio up for the TS350HDV I have...turned out to be a really nice combo. It was sorta hacked by the PO...AGC limiter was clipped, the thing was way out of tune. With the amp, I'm getting around 50 watts of deadkey and 200 watts of swing...and a lot less bleedover than the FatBoy 2-pill I was running. I'm getting good reports...hoping to hear some skip in the near future.
I was also thinking about setting up a small "base"...using another Grant I picked up in a trade (when it rains it pours!). Its in almost as nice of shape as the one I just had tuned! I'm thinking of just a basic barefoot Grant and small antenna...maybe a dipole?

Wow $300.00 for a Grant in the box! For a little more a guy can get a two final rig that has MUCH more to offer than what a plain vanilla CB can give someone! I got my 1979 vintage Cobra 148 that was in the box for about $75.00 shipped.
