Hi guys. I was looking for a new base antenna and found the Sirio Vector 4000 antenna. which looks like the better choice to go with for living in Tampa Florida. What do you guys think? The antenna that I have now is a A-99 that gets about 25-35 miles and is on a 20' stand.

I'm going to a local radio shop to ask about a base antenna for 2-meter, I'll ask him about that and see what he has to say.

Thanks blacksmoke. Some people say it the best cb antenna and some people say it the worst cb antenna ever for cb radio. If it not the best antenna I will get a Sirio 827 CB antenna. But Sirio Vector 4000 antenna made for CB radio and should work.

Great site. I especially love the rieviews section and Elmers forum. I frequently ask questions on Elmers forum. The only annoyance I find is hams try to out-do one anothers, and start bickering. If I post a question about something, there is always a disagreement which turns into a tit-for-tat of who knows more. In that mess is people actually trying to help you.

That's why I gave up on USENET. Too much bickering and personal affronts and too little radio talk.......

It's funny that you mention that. But antenna and theory are not my game, and I don't care about them. So long as I am getting out, I don't care if it is cups with strings.
One of the topics I mention was the Ugly Balun. I made one and it is now listed under my call KC2NXV. Someone asked if they really worked. Oh my God. The floodgates opened. First off, I didn't design the balun. I simply followed the specs from my Huslter 5BTV antenna manual, and built one. I figured that they antenna company recommended it, so it must work. After all, it is a ham antenna. Well, you have about a 50/50 split.
Another popular can of worms, is the dreaded antenna grounding question.
I have come to the conclusion and have made my own cliche. "if you ask 100 hams the same antenna question, you will get 100 different answers".
Luckily, if you ask them about radios or troubleshooting, they are much more agreeable.

SIRIO 2016 under local conditions I get 45 miles all the time, and with skip world wide. SWR is a flat 1 to 1. Assembly is partially completed for you, holes drilled, just push sections in and tighten down with screws, then slip over the water proof casing on each area. Where your pl259 is attached it has a water proof shell also. Assembly time less than 30 minutes, a one man job to erect. My antenna is mounted on a tripod off the roof. Also it is flat <swr>on the lower and high channels also.

Is that 45 miles with 4 watt output? And how tall is it?

It is 20 feet tall<according to specs>, and that is 18 watts output.

I agree about the 2016. With mine on a push up pole about 25' above ground. I am getting good reports w/ 12 - 14 watts swing. Flat swr. And it is easy to assemble. Great antenna.

Yes yes! This antenna is a performer! I had one back in 1995-2001 and it worekd plain and simple. It is a pain to tune and the directions and dimensions are in Italian, but if you do some simple metric to standard conversions (high school stuff here)you will be ok. Oh, and as far as the hams on Eham and QRZ most of them know a lot about nothing. Some of them have masters degrees in electronics, but are dumb as a box of rocks being street smart and have no PR skills dealing with ordinary people. I have butted heads with some of those butt heads many times and I hold a General class ham ticket.

I find most hams want to show you the rules and regs, and try to bring those up or the local ham marshals<sickening>, and go listen on 20 and 75 meters, know it all......The ham license is easy to get a few nights of memorization and take the test, not like the test years ago, theory, circuits and etc. I stay away from the marshals who know it all. I operate ham, cb, murs, gmrs and enjoy it all without the know it alls...
HAVE FUN AND OPERATE
