I am new to the forum and this is my first Post. I have a Tram D201, the one with circuit boards. In TX with the mic gain full, speaking about 8 inches away from the mic, I get about 25% modulation. When I speak very close to the mic, I get about 95% modulation. I'm using non-amplified D104's. Prior to the problem, modulation was high even when speaking a distance away from the mic.
I am asking for help to troubleshoot/repair. Thank You

Failed tube, maybe? Maybe not.
Failed resistors are common. R520, R646 and R635 more or less in that order of suspicion.
The BA board has parts on it that also fail. R641, R638 and R639 may affect audio gain. But ALL of the 2-Watt resistors on that board should be upgraded to 5-Watt parts. The original carbon-composition resistors just don't last more than a few years of regular service. And when they fail, they can cause other problems.

Scape Goat (Gary) is a very good friend! He lives near me. He fixed my Browning MK. III transmitter, awhile back. It had a loud hummm... I know that that Tram is driving him nuts!
He came to the right place for help. Thanks, 2600!
