I love the cobras... lot of bang for yur buck. A good friend gave me a virgin 29 Wx Nw St - (whatever all that means...). I'm lookin for the mods you'd do to your personal rig. I want a radio that will drive a 2 tube Elkin mobil box and won't kill the tubes. Modulation mods but a dead key of 1.5 or 2.0. Maybe an echo board...receive mods... how about a "Top Gun" compressor? For this project money ain't really an object. I can buy a big radio. I just want to build the ultimate Cobra 29 . If you were building a 29 to be the ultimate 29 and drive a tube box WHAT WOULD YOU DO? External switches are ok. Power mike is a given. Schottkey diode mod for the detector? Lay it on me guys. I want the best of the best....I WILL post the results of this project with pic's. (Its going in a chevy pkp. with a 102" whip and the 2 tube Elkin box). Lets play radio....... '73 - Rumrunner

A good friend gave me a virgin 29 Wx Nw St - (whatever all that means...). WX is weather channels, NW is Night-Watch (back-lighting) ans ST is SoundTracker which supposedly improves the sound quality of the radios TX & RX. For the radio, the only mods I'd do is get the deadkey to where you want it, and turn the modulation up to 90% or so. My opinion of the Topgun board is that it isn't worth it, but that's just my opinion. It's a great radio, just a few tweaks and it should sound great on the air. Leave the SoundTracker off, though. On edit: had to change the night watch to a dashed word, just because the profanity filter changed it to nighthingych.

I might be wrong but I don't think that you can get extra channels out of that radio. If it can be done you might be able to get below fourty or above fourty, not both.

I had thought the mods were the same as a regular Cobra GTL , but I could be wrong.

I've never worked on a 29-WX NW ST, but I can't imagine they'd change the board.
Stranger things have happened.
