I have a radio here with a fet mod to it (2030) properly done. Was told someone tried to turn up the recieve on radio and now it will not keep a freq. I have it on bench and it will drift from 10.825 to 522.xxx on inline counter. I was wondering what this could be and how to fix it

The receive should be realigned but that won't cure the transmit frequency unless someone botched up the receive and turned other adjustments. It could be that the VCO is out of adjustment. Turning the mic gain or dynamike off when you key up, it should show a steady frequency. With an inline counter, modulation will make the counter go crazy. Sounds to me like it's in the radio. Someone else around here can give you a better idea what's going on.

Thank you for your comment, from what I am hearing there seems to have been a gold screw driver in it and out of alignment. I am going to try to realign the pll and see where that leads. If nothing else I well gain experience from it.

If you have the alignment instructions and at least a signal generator you should be able to do it. You need to know what the voltages on the PLL are supposed to be and I think that radio probably has a 10.240 mixer crystal. It might be off frequency. It probably just needs aligned.

Have everything but a signal generator, which is going to be purchased very very soon. Well as soon as I get paid for the things I have already done for others around here
