I won a Roadtalker 40 off of Ebay. It is the flat faced mobile with the 40 channel selector that has the numbers that the light shines through. Does anyone know anything about this CB rig? i got it to add to my vintage CB collection.

I bought an am model that was new in the box for thirty dollars and has switches in the back for going up or down. Hold onto it

I bought 2 base roadtalkers of Ebay in factory condition. There are some good buys. I heard the mobiles were good radios . I had been in radio since the 70s and never heard of them until this year.

Really? In the 1970's Sears was really pushing 'their' radios.

I was into tube sets back then .I collect vintage radios and equipment , but stay away from the tube sets, some tubes are hard to get . I have noticed a lot of Roadtrackers, mobile and base on Ebay . I am satisfied with mine .I always use Paypal for their protection .

You are braver than I am. Nowadays I wouldn't buy any radio off of Ebay. As for being into tube sets back in the 1970's, I believe most of us old pharts were. That's why we are here.

It works great on AM sucks on SSB. I dont know why but they just wont do more than 8 watts on SSB and i have had 3 of them do this same thing...

Have you tried the "slant face" 40 Channel SSB 934.38270701 base/mobile yet? My first real CB was a Sears. Adjusting RT602 and RT701 really helped on the output side of things. Now swings 10-11 watts on SSB. AM swings little better now at 8 watts. Note: RT602 is mislabeled on the component side on my board as "TR602" It is located near the heavily heat sinked final transistor about 2/3 the ways back on the board from the front and about centered. All of these "RT" pots appear clear in color and are about 3/8" in diameter. RT701 is almost all the way back on the board to the right near the power supply transformer. It is labeled on the solder side of the board. I'm assuming that TR701 labeled on the schematic as "ALC" stands for "Automatic Limit Control" and that's why adjusting it increases SSB output. Other noted "RT component" call outs on the schematic are "Am IF Gain RT 101 , SSB IF Gain RT 131, SSB AGC RT251" Here's a mod for extra channels if you're so inclined: www.oocities.org/siliconvalley/port/1158/sears.htm
