The 148's were made in a few different places over the years and there were various models. The 148F has a frequency counter, the 148 DX has 40 channels up and 40 channels down from the factory and was supposed to be an export. There will be slight changes in the main boards depending on where it was built and what model it is. Some have the mic connector on the front panel and are five pin, some have the mic on the left side and are four pin, the 148 GTL DX does anyway. Dynascan made the original 148's and I'm not sure if Uniden made any once they built Cobra radios. I have a DX model and a 2000 too. Both are great radios. I'm not sure how much difference there is in the main boards but the 2000 has a modulation meter and a three position switch so that you can select one, two, or both external speakers. No speaker in the radio itself. The 2000's all have a frequency counter with a clock feature.

The main receiver and transmitter block diagrams and design are the same. Performance is the same. They are good boxes provided you know how to set them up to run CLEAN!! Lets start putting an end to the splatter sound of the jack-leg CB technicians and start talking good clean loud audio worldwide...

I sure agree with that! I don't know why most CB operators have to run over 100% modulation. 80% is usually fine. Don't jack up power. Not only is it hard on the radio so use an amp if you want more watts but tune that so it's clean too.

i'm using a cobra 1000 with a silver eagle mike, but the roger beep or what ever it is doesnt work.mike is good and loud, clear.i never use over 80% modulation.i like my radio to be clear. i have a good looking old dak i was thinking about getting a old 148 that was beat up pretty bad and putting it in the dak case.be a good project.has anyone did anything like this.there is lots of room in the face of it to add a freq meter if anybody wanted to.
