My main radio, late production Mark III, has been running perfectly but in mid May it's going to Nomad Radio for a complete rebuild. I've amassed all of the parts, so that's a plus. These radios weren't meant to run all these years, sure amazes me. It's modded with the SWR set now being the mic gain. I installed a Nomad slider/buffer kit in the transmitter and I'm using a Siltronix 90 to tune it with. The receiver is modded for channels below one and above channel fourty. The Siltronix is getting a Texas Ranger frequency counter installed in it and eliminating the analog dial. Besides replacing capacitors and resistors, 2600 is installing heavier duty caps and resistors as well as beefing up the power supply in the transmitter. I just finished packing everything up and I managed to get it all into two boxes. I pack stuff that I ship like it's going to be dropped from a two story building and still survive. The postal authorities will love me as I'm shipping Priority Mail and I'm going to over insure everything. The radio is a beast now and I can just imagine what it'll be like when it comes home. Since people are getting their tax refunds he's all booked up with work, that's why the mid May appointment for me. This is my main radio and is a bear to operate. Nothing has been butchered and no holes, extra switches, or power mods. I have three sweep tube amps to choose from for when the skip runs. I'm now using a Thunderbolt 100, that's enough power if conditions are right but I have two heavier amps that I can go to. I live in an apartment in a downtown business and residential area so 100 watts is pushing it if I don't want complaints. I just aquired a clean Galaxy DX2527 that's a monster but too many bells and whistles and I have a nice Cobra 2000. I just don't like the audio sound of transistorized gear. Both of these radios will be used for spares and back ups but still constantly inline, I use a switch box for selecting each radio to the antenna. Antenna improvements are also on the way. I can't wait! I should be ready for the most part of the skip season, ha, ha.
