Well I have tried pry-ed and everything I can think of to get the top cover of this radio off to adjust the lsb freq. but I cannot find a way to remove the top. I took out all the screws that I can see holds it on but to no avail. I need the lowdown on this top cover. The bottom came right off. Thanks ak3383 Indy

I'm sure that you took the mounting bracket and the thumbwheels off. A lot of times the covers have screws on the rear of the radio. That's all I can think of, maybe someone else has an idea. Hope that no one super glued it.

Yea, I found what was holding it on. There are 2-brass screws on the bottom that screw into the frame of the radio. These screws also go into 3" posts that are molded into the top cover. I took the screws out and it came off. You wouldn't think to remove the screws as there are a dozen such screws in the same area on the bottom side of the radio and all of these screws are only 1/2" long. Thanks for the reply. Good that you got the cover off. I can't recall a radio being built like that? Now we know, go figure.

Yeah it was different for sure. This radio although interesting with it's layout, scan and other features sure doesn't tune up much as far as modulation is concerned, all the way up nets around 85-90%. I did turn the power up just a little 5-7 watts but even at max I was only seeing 8-10 am and 14-16 ssb maybe. It hears ok but not as good as my 1st generation President Washington.

The 459 is a very cool looking almost star wars looking CB rig! I knew a local that ran one once and it sounded ok on the air. Definetly not like the TRC 458 which is an audio monter,!

If you want more modulation just put a power mic on it. You could also clip the modulation limiter but I don't recomend that.
