I have just put my brackets on the house and getting set up to put the antenna up 5/8 wave. I cant wait. I have some questions because i have been out of it for so long. What antenna cable to use the big stuff or the small stuff. if i use the big stuff what who do i get it into the house? And i have a tram D201 that I am going to try out. If i need to get it repaired where can i get it fix? woody

What is the distance from the radio to the antenna, and are you planning on running any amplifiers?
I myself prefer and use LMR 400, it's low loss and has excellent RF shielding.

My thoughts only.
Use the lowest loss coax YOU can afford. LMR 400 is very good coax and you can find it for about .68 a foot for 100 ft. Even if you are going to run 4 watts. Loss will effect your receive. And good quality coax will give you less headaches over time.
If you have never Installed PL-259 connectors find a quality shop to do the work, bad coax ends can drive you crazy.
As far is pulling it from the outside of the house to the radio that will depend on the location of the ant and the radio, an the design of the house. If you are locating the pole at peak there is usually a vent located there with a screen covering it ,that can make for an excellent entrance for the coax. Just make sure you leave a drip loop there so water does not run down the coax into the house.

Marc I dont have that vent to run the cable and i have 100 feet of the LMR-400. with the cable being that thick is there something to run the cable threw the wall? And If I dont use all 100 feet should i cut and put the pl 259 on it?

Ok here is the next option, do you have any vents along the eves of the house? Should see about 3 or four round holes in the 2x4s that run between the rafters. That can be the next best thing. They do make wall tubes but I have never been a fan of them and yes you would need to remove the PL-259 to use one of them. How far is the Ant from the radio location? I my self would not cut the coax just lay the extra loosely up in the attic do not roll it up.

I see you are in New England, so that would suggest you have a wood frame home and a basement. You may be able to fish the cable in through a basement window or door ( drilling a hole in the frame). And then come into the room through the floor. And I also would not cut the cable until you see how the swr's are. 73
