Got a buddy with an old Robyn 520D that we believe has bad finals. He hasn't used it in at least 10 years, and I'm hoping to wind up with it. What I'm wondering about is whether it is possible to still buy final output transistors for these old 858 chassis radios. Does anybody know? And if so, where can they be found and about what can I expect to pay for them? Thanks!

I will tell you what. I have a scrap Cobra 139 XLR, which has the same finals and driver. I can send you those at no cost.
But I need a favor. I have a Robyn 520 on my bench that has been modded, which I am trying to bring back to original status. I need an known non-modded Robyn, so I can undo the mods. If you send the radio to me, I will take pics, and use it as a visual only reference. I will not remove nor touch anything other than the covers.
I will pay the shipping back to you for the radio, with a final and driver. I won't do the repair. You'll have to do the repair.
But the important thing is that this radio is not hacked up. Otherwise, it does me no good.
Let me know what you think. And you can trust me. Ask anyone here. BTW, I am also a ham N4NYY.

It's none of my business but if that's the deal then it's a shame to have the radio open and the parts at hand and not do the repair.

Here is the problem. I don't know what is wrong with his radio. It may not be the final or driver. It maybe one of those "month long" repairs. I could spend a month on it. Also, I don't want the infamous "it was OK until you touched it" line.
I only work on my friend's radios, with the conditions of no guaranteed repair, and no time constraints.
My deal is fair. He only has to pay for shipping to me. I pay for shipping back, and I give him the parts for free. All I remove is the covers, and re-insert them.

Your deal is exremely fair and I know that you can be trusted. I shoud have kept my mouth shut. I was thinking of the issues that you brought up after I made my post. There could be other issues in the radio and there's no guarantee that the final or final druver is bad which can eat up a lot of time with diagnosing and all. Plus you're right about things that were working when the radio was shipped. I don't take any reoairs anymore unless it's from a close friend and I quit guaranteing a long time ago. It sure helps to have a complete shop with parts available just to keep my own radios running. Take care!

The power supply is shot. I have been trying to get one of these radios to borrow so I can restore one that I have. Even just to take pictures. I have offered someone a final and to pay the shipping back. No takers.
