I use a Sencore MM Vll tube tester. When setting it up to test some tubes you have 2 different setting. Should it test in both setting> 238

Hi 238, I too have run across this on a few tubes with my B&K 666 Dynajet. I test them in both settings and have NOT discovered a tube reading good in the first setting, to read bad in the second. I haven't a clue as to why the 2 different settings, but I do test them on both, if so marked on the tube chart. Hopefully someone will chime in and we can get the actual reason behind the 2 different settings for the same tube.

6BQ7's, 6BK7's, 12AX7's, etc. are twin triodes. The two settings are for each section. The Mighty Mite's are emission testers, so you will find very few tubes that will check bad. Best way is to life test them by lowering the filament setting to next lowest voltage. Example, 4-5 instead of 6. Page A of the operating instructions tells about this.

I have found very few tubes that check on both setting. How do you know which one is used in the radio. I have 2 6EQ7's that will not check in ether setting. The needle never moves. One is new. The tube is out of the Titan ll. Also have a Hickok 6000A tester. One day i might learn how to operate it. 238

Found the reason the tubes would not check, broke wire in the tester. Would the Hickok 6000A be the better checker? I bought the manuals for it. I also have the manuals & Sams for the Titian ll. 238

With my Sencore Mighty Mite, I have found a few tubes that do not check OK on the second or third positions. One thing on the Sencore testers is the sockets tend to get loose, and when I get no readings, I wiggle the tube or pull it up halfway out of the socket to make contact.

That's the way mine would act. But it ended up being a wire between the next 2 sockets. I used needle nose pliers an went down the line pulling each wire. 238
