Quick question I moved my antenna antron 99a up. My SWR went up to the point that channel 1 is 2 to 1 and 40 is 1.4 to 1. Would you adjust the rings on the antenna which would mean me taking it down again or would you just use an antenna tunner that I already have. If you use the tunner don't you lose watts out? Ron

2.1 is about 11% power loss, which in CB circles means that is it not worth worrying about. The mismatch could be a coax problem, could be a nearby metal object, height, etc, I suppose you can adjust the rings.
If you can get a compromise on channels 1 and 40 under 2.1, then just leave it alone. If you get a 1.8 or such, that is perfectly fine. Too many people are preoccupied trying to get 1.1.
Also, try another SWR meter to be sure.

You might try one of these coax chokes beneath the feed point of the antenna, then do the ring adjustment if still necessary. 5 wraps on a 4" core in the coax feedline just beneath the feed point on the antenna.

If you use those plastic ties, be very careful not to crush the coax at all. Just get them snug, not tight.

You cannot check antenna resonance with a SWR Meter!
The SWR meter only shows what the line is doing, not the aerial.
You need to adjust the Aerial with a noisy bridge or a Antenna Analizer.
If you have the ground plane kit, it needs to be close to the bottom of the antenna - within 4'
If you do not have a ground plane kit, then cut at least 16 pieces of wires - radials, and space them equally around the tower or pipe you are using for a mast and bond them to the pipe or tower and bury them slightly underground so you do not run over them with the lawn mower and the efficiency of the Antenna should increase.
The height of the antenna should be at least 30' Above ground and should be higher then everything else in the neighborhood if you really want to get out very far.
AND the MAST needs to be bonded to ground rods around the mast and to the ground stake for the electric company - to prevent a open loop.

An MFJ 259B is a worthy investment! ;D ;D
