Skip was in tonight from Indianna....Was able to talk to FIXR and a D201 he was running. Nothing from the Northeast...learned a new exclamation tonight: Holy Nighttrain Batman!...lol The heavy metal transmitter was sounding great as usual.

Nothing from the Northeast...learned a new exclamation tonight: Holy Nighttrain Batman!...lol The heavy metal transmitter was sounding great as usual. I could hear the CRR on my mobile CB on and off as long as I was not under a bunch of power lines. I made it in briefly to Spitfire. I was using a vintage 1977 Midland 79-892 40 channel sideband mobile, a blue faced Palomar 350 transistor amp with about 100 watts dead key, and a Wilson 500 magnetic mount antenna. Mint in box 1977 Midland 79-892 with all paperwork. www.shadowstorm.com/cb/images/Midland_79-892-in-box.jpgMint in box 1977 Midland 79-892 turned on for the first time. www.shadowstorm.com/cb/images/Midland_79-892-on.jpgMidland 79-892 back plate with date stamp. www.shadowstorm.com/cb/images/Midland_79-892-back-plate.jpgAnother slightly used Midland 79-892 I own listening to 27.385 LSB on 11/26/2011 www.youtube.com/watch?v=17F_-Y5sifcI purchased one of these as a closeout in 1979 at the local Woolco. It has the PLL02a chip in it. : ) Night Ranger

It was a fun radio to experiment on. Yea, you were sounding pretty good from the mobile, a little fuzzy around the edges (maybe a little too much carrier?), but otherwise right in there. We were waiting for you to get on the base, but I'm guessing conditions closed down before you had the chance.

Yea, that just sort of came out. One of those instantaneous mind farts. Just add it to the CRR lexicon. Yea, conditions were not real strong last night. Most signals were down in the mud. We had a brief QSO with Night Ranger in his mobile, but things went pretty much downhill after that. It was actually pretty quiet for a CRR night.......

Another great CRR, skip was weak but there. Glad you gave me a shout Night Ranger, I didn't think conditions were good enough that any contacts would be made. Runnin @ 250 watts carrier on the B&W, I was hedging my bets. I heard you right away, my Hallicrafters receiver may be 60 years old, but has one sensitive set of ears. Do you like my Browning ping? I put a .5mfd cap on the receiver mute line, unless I tell 'em, they think its a Browning. Holy Nighttrain Batman, another CRR in the history books.

I'll kick it in to low the next time I am on AM. The radio is set to 4 watts on AM, and that may be too much drive on AM for two 2sc2879a transistors. Night Ranger

Night Ranger I find I have better results when driving "2 pill" amps with about 2 watts of carrier drive. The audio is punchier as well, with a lowered carrier.
