After reading Grumpy's post, and him saying he would need to call an antenna service.
Brought back memory's of antenna party's back in the early days. Some would say "Hay I just got a new antenna" and the next weekend a hand full of hands would show up and in an hour or so burgers and dogs would be cooking an radio checks would be flying. I guess the lack of people on the radio in some areas things like that just don't happen as much. It is a shame, had lots of fun doing things like that.

Did that with a beam when I was 12 for a friend of my dad. There was 5 of us and we all had McDonalds after. I remember it like it was yesterday. If I lived closer to Grumpy. I would put his antenna up for him. I would also do the Sunday breakfast.

All someone had to do was buy a new antenna and the volunteers would come out of the woodwork. Mainly we were all interested to see how this "new" antenna performed and whether it would be worth upgrading to ourselves. And of course the whole camaraderie thing too. But we were all much younger then. My ladder climbing days are becoming a thing of the past........

Nothing like the satisfaction of laying on the roof having a cold beer admiring the new beam you just installed.

Back when I was younger and much more healthy I helped put a lot of antennas up in this town. The last one I helped with was about 6 years, it was Crazy Bob's brother-in-law Double K. I didn't do much other than help get the thing tuned, but I still enjoyed helping just the same.
The best time I had putting an antenna up was a Wilson Laser 500 when I was a Senior in High School. Me and another teenage buddy helped a lady and her hubby put it up. We did that one and put up a Avanti Sigma II. Fun weekend, worked all day Saturday, camped out in a tent in their back yard and finished up Sunday!
Most of the guys around here are older than me or around my age but with health issues as well. Most of the younger guys (and there isn't many) I would not let on my roof.

;DAnd looking over at your neighbors and seeing the horror on their faces Back when I was younger you couldn't hit the neighbors house with a rock from the roof even if you have a good arm. Not today, they've really built up the area.
