DAK X CHANNEL AND BULB FINDING PROBLEM
Got most of the Dak X problems solved. I do need bulbs to get meters to light and mode lights working but the hard stuff seems done. Mic is wired and things looking up. It shows good power out 3-4 watts but when my wife is on the other radio She is distorted on this DAK radio and I'm distorted talking back. I took the portable outside and all sounded terrible until my wife decided to fined me on another channel. Everything perfect but wrong channels. MY wife on the Dak channel 21 and me on another radio channel 20. Perfect conversation and receive. My wife on 23 on the DAK and me on 25 perfect. My wife on 22 I'm on 21 perfect. Whats the deal. Crystals out of position???? Any thoughts on what is the problem? What to do next? Email me ron222@embarqmail.com Thanks Ron

Possible a bad mixer xtal. Or some one used the golden screw driver in the coils. out of alignment? If I remember these radios had some tubes and the rest soild state? If the tubes run the receiver, than you may have a bad tube. Just some guessing. But a place to start.

This usually involves cutting and jumping pins on the PLL chip and adding in external switches to manipulate the programming of the pins to provide channels outside of the regular 40. But if the switches aren't set properly or the mod was done (or undone) wrong, you can have the symptoms you describe. You could also have a bad PLL chip. Sometimes one of the programming pins will internally short low or high, and the programming will be wrong. Last, you could have a bad channel selector switch, which is not providing the correct programming.

I forgot that they had PLL chips. Was thinking they still had crystal control. Been awhile since i have been in one.
