Sometimes price is not the object.
And if you don't miss having a noise blanker, that's cool. Can't hear much without one here.

I recently picked up a 23 channel Cobra 85 on ebay for 9.00. I'm pretty sure it uses the same crystals as a Browning Brownie or Tram XL. I may use it for a garage radio, or give it to my daughter who lives nearby. Just a volume & a squelch knob . It talks & receives pretty decent for what it is. We hang on 26.925 a lot & it's easy to put a crystal in it to get 4 below.

Used to have one back in the 90's..used it in our camper on trips...was a pretty decent talker. Built in noise limiter wasn't the best, but it sufficed. Mine was a bullet-proof rig and ran it up until just a few years back when I replaced it with an old Cobra 87GTL. The 85 had a Toshiba chassis, or am I wrong?? I always thought it was a decently handsome rig....clean, no-nonsense...would definitely get another if it was cheap.. ;D

Interesting that most later solid state 23 and early 40 channel Cobras fell into one of two camps. They were either Toshiba, or Uniden chassis based. I guess they couldn't make up their minds who they wanted building their rigs, or they always wanted a 2nd source, in case one went belly up.
