Have a MidLand 13-882c.Got a new stock mike still in the box.Hooked the rig up talks and sounds good. Now there is a mod to make it a 40 chan.Anyone know the mod?3s. Yes, that radio has a PLL-02a chip in it, which is more than capable of 40 channel operation. There are a few different ways of accomplishing this. The cheapest and easiest is to hook up switches to pins 7,8,9,10 and 15 and make a truth chart for the channels that need which switches (and you'll end up with a whole lot more than 40). A more elegant solution would be to put in a 40 channel switch, that is mated to the particular binary codes for that radio. They used to sell them back in the 70's when a lot of these radios were converted over to 40 channel operation. You may be able to still find one out there on E-Bay or at a radio shop. A more complicated solution to the channel switch mod, would be to take a standard off-the-shelf binary channel switch, which should be easy to come by, and shift the codes with a pair of 4008 binary adder chips. The beauty of this method is that you can shift bands of 40 channels to give you 120 or more channels. But it requires a bit of know-how to pull it off.
