I no longer have a "naked" radio on the bench! The new meter came today for my 13-893 Midland and I got it back together, aligned it, and put the cases on...she came out nice..a new coat of Black satin enamel and a Cobra replacement meter dresses it up really nice. The faceplate had no scratches, nor did the case...it looks and performs like a brand new radio...teamed up with an RK56 turner mike she has quite formidable audio too.....or so the folks in DX-land tell me....I'll use her for the round-up this coming week. :

I see you added a 13-880B knob on the clarifier.....

It's a nice old radio. If I had one of them the 959 in the mobile would probably get replaced by it. How does it do on SSB? As a matter of fact, I'm likely going to put a Grant in the mobile to replace the 959. I'm tired of the galaxy being inoperable on SSB for a 1/2 hour or more in cold weather because it drifts so far off frequency when cold. I'm hoping the Grant XL will do better.

Actually, I had considered adding the complete set of knobs from the 880B because they are so much easier to grip for my fat fingers.. The larger knobs do look quite good on the rig...Even the dual volume/squelch pair fits well...The SSB switch is stiff on this rig (from non-use) and a larger knob would facilitate the change in modes a bit easier...This rig sat for a while after the former owner left the hobby, so it hasn't had a lot of use...that accounts for the very nice appearence and lack of scratches. I would love to find a pair of extra crystals to cover channels 36-40 or 38 and 40 to use it on SSB. It performs well now with an easy 10 watts + on sideband...This is a BIG heavy-duty radio and would be great in my truck. The meter wasn't difficult to mount, but it turned slightly when I slipped the faceplate on, but thats an easy fix to straighten up, hardly notice it. Anybody got an idea where I can find some crystals??

Got the new knobs on it...I'm leaving the Mic Gain stock....all the rest replaced...a lot easier for my "fat" fingers...

I had the 882 AM only, Added a channel box to it. Great radio, wish I hadn't traded it for a SBE. Oh well, maybe I will find a nice one some day.
