For some of us the vacuum tube never went away. That is true. I have been using tubes in CB, Ham, and my two guitar amplifiers all along. When it comes to tube guitar amps the 6l6GC is hard to beat for smooth audio. The 12AX7A tube is a preferred overdrive tube in guitar amps and guitar distortion pedals. I buy the Peavey brand of 6l6gc tubes for my two Peavey VTX Classic guitar amps. They sound just as good as the "elite" brands, and they are alot less expensive. Peavey matched pair of 6l6gc tubes www.tubesandmore.com/products/T-6L6GC-MP-PVThe Peavey brand 12ax7 tubes are alot more reasonable as well. www.tubesandmore.com/products/T-12AX7-PVNight Ranger

This is what I use in my D201 and they work just like the RCA black plates I pulled out and placed in a very safe place. I have seen no differance in proformance. www.tubedepot.com/sv-6l6gc.htmlMarc

More typical is the $69 price. But $26 is certainly more reasonable. Hopefully I won't have to re-tube my Tram for a while.

I prefer tube amps as the sound warmer to me, and don't instantly distort like transistors do.
