Found this neat little Robyn 007-140 40 Channel Transceiver DELUXE for a song at a yard sale today. Any thing labeled 007 has got to be cool Unit is in SAMS 196 which I don't have yet. I'd like to turn up the modulation listed as VR6 but the silkscreen on the board only shows the electronic component type and values, not the component ID number. Some of the components are housed in a rather large separate metal box in the radio. It's like the size of a large harmonica. The SM5104 PLL must be hidding in there. It's got a position on one of the knobs for INTERCOM. The other positions are for PA, CB and ANL. There's an extra 1/8" jack for the CB Intercom along with the others that are for the PA and External speaker. There's another 3 position slide switch on the back for switching between PA/ CB OFF/ INTERCOM What is the "intercom" feature... separate 2nd speaker? This radio also features a scintillating plastic chrome plated bezel that has a real simulated wood grain vinyl inlay with a medium gray hammer tone case to match the interior of any vehicle that the distinguished mobile CB'er may operate...ha ha, another DEE-lux radio.

Nice find. I would guess the intercom would let two of the same radio talk off the air to each other. That's my guess. 73

Interesting little radio. The SM5104 was a fairly workable PLL chip. Same chip as in some of the SSB Sears Roadtalkers. The intercom feature is like a "reverse PA". It allows you to hear what someone on the other end is saying. Although It's a curious feature on a mobile rig. It would make more sense on a base radio that was used in a factory office or something like that.

So the Intercom speaker may act like a dynamic microphone. Interesting. I'll have to try it and see.
Got it on air last night with some decent audio reports with the stock mic. The big blue meter is cool looking. The blue back lit channel selector with a red light behind the current channel is different. Receive is good. I wonder who made this for Robyn.
Not much swing yet, but conditions were good and Block Head, Operator Ron and I were talking with One Way Bastard in Indiana last night for about half an hour. I'd like to ID the VR6 modulation pot and L15,L10,L11,L13 if anyone has the Sams 196. Thanks.

I found some info on why the intercom function..These were frequently used as base units...I had forgotten this..Robyn sold a Base module with a built in power supply that would give these radios dual use....It was a nice vinyl covered box that the radio slipped into to for a base unit...it actually looked pretty nice....they made 2 different units..the SX7 for the small mobiles and the SX12 with a clock for the big mobiles. If you look on the back of your SX007, youll see a threaded hole that was used in conjunction with a thumbscrew to secure the radio into the base module...The modules come up for sale a lot on the 'Bay and would be a nice additional accessory for a mobile Robyn collection...I have a SX-007 23 channel version of your radio, as well as a DG-30, Wv-23, & an LB-23a...

I had a neighbor who had a WV-23, and I used to wipe it out with bleedover with a 1 watt walkie-talkie. I'm beginning to think that the early Uniden 23 channel chassis were real "bleed boxes".... Even worse than Cybernet.
