A Browning SST 40 ch. Mobile (SST II)... Paid a whopping 25 bucks for it....It's in great shape..looks hardly used...It's also an AUDIO MONSTER with a stock mike. Needs a slight frequency alignment...(27.114.6 on Ch.13) and the controls cleaned..other than that, I'm not touching the transmitter...it talks great. Look for it out there in DX land over the next few days. After a conversation with the shipper last night, They are also sending me the Sams book (#143) on it at no charge..What a deal!..Now back to my Connex 3300 rebuild..

Nice low buck browning score for sure Doc Hammer.
Looks like they went with silver knobs on those, but they're the same type as the gold ones on my browning LTD.
As you said, don't automatically discount the smaller simplistic mobile rig. I've been pleasantly surprised by the audio performance of some of those 3 knob radios. I really never looked at them as just "mobile" radios anyway. My first real CB base station was a 3 knob Sears mobile radio powered by a 13.8 VDC PS.

I think I looked at that one, great catch! The only Browning I own that doesn't have tubes in it is a Baron that I got from a friend. It is in rough shape which is a shame as it was a good looking radio and I think I remember it being a decent SSB radio. Don't know why but this radio is much heavier then the other 40ch SSB mobils I have.

The whole front of the radio is trimmed in silver, Sparky..No gold on it...The damn thing is HEAVY too...it weighs as much as my 148GTL and my Connex 3300 COMBINED! The front face is also tilted back slightly when placed on a flat surface..I'll post more pics tomorrow after I clean controls and get it in-line to use. It has a "Ping" when you key it like my Bird..obviously some kind of internal mod. I'll check that out when I open her up..More to come....

Another addition to the bench...A NEW-IN-THE-BOX PACE CB-1000B SSB Base Station...it works nice....SSB needs to be tuned up some, but AM is good to go...Drove to Wichita to pick it up from a fellow HAM who also owned a local CB Shop there in the 80's & 90's. Dig the pic of the HUGE mobile bracket that came with it! This radio is SUPER TRAIN APPROVED..there isn't a scratch on it anywhere! He used it a bit over the last year from time to time, but it was in the foam and plastic when I picked it up...got the manual, FCC Licence app, the 10 code "suggestion" sheet plus DC and AC cords in the original box..Price sticker on the box was $429.95! I had forgotten how expensive even the Japanese radios were back in the day! This rig dates back to 1975 or 76..I think. Paid a paltry 40 dollars for this rig! Also enjoyed over an hour of DX'ing with "Quarterwave" Dave 044 out of the mobile on the way home to Abilene...

WOW that Pace is amazing! Never owned one but all the ones I heard sounded good. Had to laugh looking at the picture of the Pace. I bought a couple of radios on ebay say 15 years ago that had pictures that looked like that but when I got the radios, well they really didn't look like what I thought I was buying!!! I kinda got gun shy after that. The Pace is a great find for sure. I do have one radio that my wife got for me kind of like that. I sold my Uniden Washington when I got into ham radio and always regretted that move. She found one at this little CB shop in lower Delaware where her family lives and bought it for me. Radio still packed in the box with foam blocks and wrap with mic and paper work. I opened it up and added a freq counter and run a Astatic 575-M6 mic on it and it's a great sideband performer. Next to my Birds it's my favorite base station. Since I am being long winded on this Friday night have a question for you all knowing gentlemen. I mentioned on another post that the Browning Baron I have is heavy. Why is it so much heavier then the other SSB mobiles I have? Thanks guys and have a good weekend. Will try to post some pics of some of my oldie but goodies this weekend. 73's

Those Toshiba chassis mobiles were tough to beat.

Had a VFO on it and used to hang on channel 36 SSB, before it was 36 The mobile bracket cracks me up. I mean, who would seriously want to mount a radio that size in a mobile?

GREAT STUFF! Now I have a question and was not sure where to post it but pretty sure most will see it here. I have owned Brownings since the mid 70's and I don't ever remember a shop around Washington that was a Browning and Tram dealer. I recently have sold a few things on ebay and became aware of a seller "superhawk" that has some of the cleanest Brownings (and expensive too) I have ever seen. Does not seem to sell much as I have noticed they are relisted. I do not know all about Brownings but I do love em and have learned a few things over the years. I know three service techs that I would trust my equipment to and two of them are on this board. This guy claims to be a servicing dealer for Browning and Tram for 30 years. Now I know my memory isn't much anymore but I really can't remember this guy and like I said I bought my first Mark III in 75 and my Mark IV in 77. I mean the radios he has listed are beautiful! Has he been sitting on this beautiful equipment for all these years or is there something else going on here? Just wondering if anyone could shed some light on this for me. If the guys a straight shooter and he just wants top dollar for his radios, fine. Seems soooo much stuff on ebay is going for crazy money today. Could be why I didn't have any trouble selling one of my very clean and working as it should D201's for $300. I seen to remember reading something about this Superhawk somewhere on the board. Would love to have one of his radios but the price of admission is a little steep for me. Oh yea Betty (wife) has been around this stuff for enough years to have a decent idea what it might be worth and I'm too old to sleep with the dog now!!!! Take care all and have a good weekend.

Superhawk is as phoney as a 3 dollar bill. All the talking up he does is nothing more than his attempt to justify the crazy-expensive prices he tries to sell things for. He's E-Bay's version of P.T. Barnum. Buyer beware. There are a couple of others on here who have dealt with him and hopefully will add their own horror stories.....

He used to claim his uncle was the radio tech. Not sure if he still does that. I wouldn't buy anything from him even with a gun pointed to my head.

For a real laugh, search his Ebay username on Google...the results will keep you entertained for hours..The guy is a scammer and a thief. He "claims" to have been a Browning-Tram-Cobra-Galaxy-Robyn-and the list goes on.....dealer for 30 years...It's all lies! He also claims to have had an uncle who was a tech at Browning Labs before they closed...another lie..He also claimed to be a Radio Shack Service center...more BS...(all RS products returned for service prior to 1990 went to Dallas for repair).I know several Tram collectors like myself around the country and one who was a dealer rep back in the 70's and 80's..they've never heard of him either..Anyone can buy a BROWNING Dealer placard..Reproductions are plentiful at times at Hamfests..He has a habit of buying stuff from other Ebayers..when it arrives, he files a complaint for "item not as described" with Paypal, gets his money back, and sends the seller some carcass he has sitting around. And somehow he gets away with it..(That happened to a friend of mine in Texas who dealt with this clown.) His name is Chris Pasquinelli...he also has a similar rep on the BUICK car forums as a parts scammer going back at least 5 years. Turbo Electronics Treasure Chest has never existed as a brick/mortar store despite what this clown claims..I would venture to say Barkett's might know him maybe because they refurb his radios? (A theory) Maybe thats why he asks crazy prices to cover their work costs? Who knows....he is a scumbag.

You'll find this info on all the major CB message boards. You do not want such a claim issued against you by PayPal as there's additional collateral damage beyond losing a radio and money from the sale. PayPal will instigate a freeze on the bank account you have associated with your PayPal account. That hold will not be released until PayPal concludes their investigation and the claim is resolved (took about three weeks in my case years back....heard it's longer now). In the meantime, you cannot access your bank account; any checks you write or have outstanding will bounce, your debit card won't work, etc. Read the terms of use in your PayPal agreement....all 3 zillion pages of it. Trust me....your bank will cooperate with PayPal. A tip for sellers who use PayPal. Establish a separate bank account and debit card tied specifically to PayPal. Do not associate PayPal with a bank account you do your normal day-to-day transactions with. worldwide on Chris Pasquinellitoolhaus on superhawkwss6

I sold him 2 radios. No problem. When you check his feed back he has all good, but when you read the text no good words. The way feedback is suppose to work is when they pay you leave good feedback. That is not a good thing now, because if you leave before you are sure ever thing is all right. You can talk bad about them all you want too, but they still have good feedback. In my case he never bid till the very end so I never had time to block his bid. I never left feedback & he never did either. I consider myself very LUCKY. 238

Thank you all, figured he was too good to be true but never thought he was that much of a dirt bag! I used to buy a fair amount of radio stuff on ebay before I retired in 2004. Just started to sell a couple of things recently that I figured would not get used around here. wd8nia, thank you for the advice on setting up a dedicated account for paypal. I had been considering doing that but my wife said why bother if not selling a lot of items. She's right about me not selling a lot, that said I'm setting up another checking account this week! Still shaking my head about this superhawk goober. Am chomping at the bit to get the new beam on the tower and here comes another winter storm!!! I really thought I might get a weather window this winter to drop the tower and do the antenna work but noooooooo, not this winter! Thanks again guys for the advice one of the many reasons I love this board. Have a great weekend.

1967 Amphenol 725..8 channel mobile CB transceiver..First one of these I've seen. This puppy is clean as a whistle and works great. Currently channels 8,9,11,12,& 15 are installed...According to my Sams, Radio Shack crystals should work in it...I have a box of surplus radio shack crystals and think I might have a set for Ch. 13...Time to dig it out! Can't wait to talk a little DX with this puppy! Someone's been "screwdrivering" those coils........ ;-) Like how the relay is outboard of the chassis. Makes for easy replacement. I guess that was a weak spot.....

I'm sure there's been a tool or 2 into the radio. The relay is a plug-in type and can be accessed by removing 2 screws and a cover on the back of the radio. The main case to the unit need not be removed. There isn't a bit of plastic on this rig except for the power indicator. The knobs are spun aluminum. I look forward to playing with this rig some this weekend. From what I can find on the web about Amphenol radios, they aren't common at all..as I said, this is the first one I've seen.

Wow, same here. Pretty much thought I had seen about every cb radio made at one time or another but this is one that I don't ever remember seeing. Then again I am getting older and the memory isn't what it used to be. Hoping mother nature is about done with her winter games in Maryland so I can drop the tower and get the new Y-Quad up and operating so that I can hook up with some of you folks on Wednesday nights. 73's
