Less chatter, more pics. You're right, I need to move the pics to a different post and leave this one for chatter....

Sorry Monkeyman pictures bring memories and that brings chatter about the old days. And how great they were even though we didn't think they were at the time.

Sorry Monkeyman pictures bring memories and that brings chatter about the old days. And how great they were even though we didn't think they were at the time. No worries. We can put the chatter here, and the pics on a different thread. And that's the thing about the old days, we tend to filter out the bad parts and only remember the good. So we end up with a somewhat distorted view. But it's a good view....

I wonder how good the Avanti Saturn antenna was sure was a weird looking one.

I wonder how good the Avanti Saturn antenna was sure was a weird looking one. That was a really unique antenna. The only omni I even knew that had a switchable horizontal polarity, utilizing the radials. I don't know anyone in my local area who ever had one. They were a bit pricey for an omni back in the day.

After I posted a picture of Sunflower's 1975 drooper ground plane on my web page another vintage Rock Hill CB'er told me his old AstroPlane was still up at his father's house in "Murphy's Canyon". I snapped a picture of it as I drove by the house. I'm guessing it has been up since the 1970s as well. One Watt's 1970s AstroPlane antenna Night Ranger This is a recording I made about ten years ago of "One Watt" talking on the CB. He is talking on a Cobra CAM 88 I repaired for him. I was proud to hear a vintage CB'er I remember from my youth talk on a radio I restored for him. One Watt was on the radio several years before I was, and I remember listening to him on my Realistic TRC-27 walkie talkie in 1976. www.shadowstorm.com/cb/mp3s/One_Watt_and_Night_Ranger_part-1.mp3Night Ranger

I'm not entirely certain if this is a CB antenna. It may be a VHF low business band ground plane antenna. In any case it has been sitting on top of a telephone poll besides a building in Rock Hill, South Carolina for decades. Night Ranger Looks very much like an A/S Super Magnum, with a semi-collapsed radiator

Spotted this one last week, turned around and snapped this out of my sunroof. Remnants of a Starduster on 435 King street, downtown PP-town... I wonder if that white wire is the coax cable........

It is amazing when you start looking and see a few still standing. I have seen maybe 5 from MITCHELL, INDIANA to Vincennes, Indiana but all verticals, nothing else. DOCTOR/795

A couple weeks ago the boy and I picked up food for the scouts food drive on a Saturday morning in the North end of Pottstown. They marked an alley for me that was a dead end, and while turning around I spotted this relic mounted on a garage. Hard to see, but 4 droopy radials and I believe 2 little round thingys (sorry, the name escapes me) on the top... Looks like an Antenna Specialist's Super Magnum. Half wave with 4 droopy radials........
