I put up a imax2000 a while back and it is what the manual says 1.5 to 1.6 or 7 on the 11 meter band. No problem..
I picked up a ldg auto tuner z100 over the weekend, and hooked it up to my GALAXY wow, swr now 1.1 and seems the radio loves it on am or ssb. Should have one of those all the time for the antenna.

DOCTOR/795 An SWR of 1.5 to one is not bad, but it's certainly tunable with an antenna like an IMAX. I would rather attempt to tune out the remaining mismatch with the antenna rather than using a tuner. A tuner might make your SWR meter happy, but it won't make much difference in actual performance, since 1.5:1 is only about 4% of your total power.

DOCTOR/795 Only to make LDG happy. I have an SWR of about 1.8 or so. I leave it alone. There is a reason most SWR meter have a red line starting at 3. In my area, CBers are fanatical about getting it to 1.1. I mean, they are on the radio clammering on how there SWR could be 1.3, and what could be wrong.

In my area, CBers are fanatical about getting it to 1.1. I mean, they are on the radio clammering on how there SWR could be 1.3, and what could be wrong. Well, there's always been a drive to get SWR as low as possible, because the CB hobbyist knows that, with a paltry 4 watts of power, every extra db counts. At 1.5:1, you lose about 4% of your power. At 2:1 it's up to 11%. At 3:1, that's the point where it's felt that the reflected power (25% now) is enough to potentially damage the final transistor. That used to be a very real fear, with the earliest solid state radios. With most modern radios though, it's not all that common for a 3:1 SWR to actually blow the final in a stock radio. That all being said, it's worth it to attempt to tune the antenna to present the lowest possible SWR. It has to be noted though, that some antennas will not achieve a SWR lower than 1.5:1. Coax feedline length also plays a role in what the SWR meter displays, which may not always be an accurate portrayal of the actual SWR. On the other hand, if you are unable to tune the antenna to lower than 1.5:1, adding a tuner to bring it all the way down to 1:1 is a waste of time. First off, the tuner will have some degree of insertion loss, which will most likely exceed whatever benefit the further reduction in SWR is realized. That is not to say that tuners can't help. For example, my 3 element yagi has a SWR of well over 3:1 on 10 meters. So I use a tuner to bring the SWR down when I run up there. It does make a difference in both receive and transmit signal to have the tuner force an impedance match when it's way out of line. It's just not practical when there is only a small difference. And I would get much better performance, if I tuned the antenna for a good SWR, rather than relying on the tuner. But 10 meters is not my primary band, so the tuner is a quick and dirty band-aid solution.

Most of those LDG tuners spec a minimum wattage of 5 watts.
