How does the variable receive work on these radios? By "variable", do you mean tunable? The Blackface had a 23 channel tunable receiver in it, so you could tune in any channel, even if you could only transmit on a few of them.

Hello Sandbagger, Dirty Diaper 21 here, I enjoyed our contact the other day on The Radio Round Up. Night Ranger made a videogate as well. We must do it again. I will try my Tram Titan II next, I haven't been up graded to the A yet, LOL. I saw the article about the Johnson Messenger, and wanted to know if you or anyone else would know the color of the case on a Johnson Messenger I. One Ebay guy has some , but he said it is Maroon-- sounds too redish to me. Mine looks like a weird grey? I have seen them painted silver, black, etc, but I would just as well use the color they used on it when it was made. Thanks again, 21

Yea, the conditions were pretty good the other night. Enjoyed the quick QSO. It's always great to run into a fellow vintage radio enthusiast. As long as the summer E-skip is running, hopefully we can make contact again. As for the color of the "White Face" case, I don't know what the original color was, but it's most likely not Maroon. Grey makes more sense. I haven't had the privilege of owning one yet, or I'd give you a better idea.
