Folks, Seems when this Cobra 2000 was in the hands of the "golden screwdriver" tech, he removed D52. D52 is a KB262 varistor. I am looking for a sub for this please if anyone knows of one. This radio is ready to go sans this one small piece.
thanks

Adcomparts.com has a KB262 for $5.43 + $4.00 shipping, if you cannot find a cheaper replacement.

A pair of generic 1N4148 diodes in series will pretty much take the place of this diode.
It's not technically a thermistor or a varistor. It's a pair of silicon signal diodes in series.
The intent behind this setup is to double the voltage chaange in the part's forward-bias voltage drop per degree of temperature change.
Hence the confusion. The job it's meant to do is to sense temperature change.
But it's really just two small-signal silicon diodes in series. Inside one tiny hunk of glass.
