I do not believe Alan has contributed here for quite some time... I do not know what may have caused Alan to leave the Forum Same issue came up a few months ago when people began joining the Facebook "Fans of Browning, Tram and Sonar Radios" Page where Alan was communicating quite regularly... A few people Posted there to Alan that after many months / years, they wanted their Radios returned... Alan stopped communicating within the Group in Public... Alan seems to have selective hearing on Facebook, as people are still Personal Messaging him through Facebook and buying Parts from him as they post to the Page having recently done so... I am sure Alan reads Posts here as well as on Facebook... I don't know what happened to Alan, but he should return peoples' Radios , etc. when asked to do so... I do not know what type of agreement had been made which allowed these issues to continue for so many months or years I would expect my Radio to be returned to me in 30 days at most from any Repair Facility... Here's Alan's Personal Facebook Page which allows people to send Alan an Instant Message www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100008032786807

He gave me a reason he quit coming on here, that was before I sent him the radio. He would not answer my PM on facebook. 238

Face it he went to the wrong side of the fence why I don’t know but I know a couple of guys he screwed over personally. Face it don’t push it under the rug so he can keep doing it I thought he was a good guy also but I can admit I was wrong

Even with Grumpy passed away it's still a great forum. You can still get good info & help on here. Some times things happen you can not control. Maybe some day things will straighten out for him. That's no excuse for not sending people stuff back fixed or not. 238

I will say that Alan has been a friend to many people on this forum in the past. He's done excellent work for many people. Whatever is going on in Alan's life right now, is obviously affecting him in a negative way. But it's not up to me or anyone else on here to pass judgment. None of us knows the truth. And even if we decided to bad mouth him, it wouldn't change the situation one way or another. We're not his keepers.

And even if we decided to bad mouth him, it wouldn't change the situation one way or another. We're not his keepers. He helped me many of times here, on radios I was working one that were not even mine. But in defense of him, I used to work on people's radios (mostly friends), on the condition that I was not a trained radio tech (I am an electronic tech), and I had no time constraints or demands. That lasted 1 week. I started to get the calls "did you look at it yet?", which I pointed out was unacceptable because I had a full time job and was working on them for free labor. Then when I fixed one, they would bring me another. And another. The last straw was when I was given a completely dead Mark IV, with cooked bridge rectifiers and caps. After I recapped and replaced the rectifiers, it fired up and was stuck on Ch. 1. After 1 week of troubleshooting and determining that digital logic chips were bad, the owner called and wanted to know what was taking me so long. I told him to come pick it up and get it the F!@# out of my house, and not to bring any more radios back (and he had to give $40 for the parts). At which point, he wanted to know who was going to complete the work. I told him I did not care. So, he later sold it only working on channel 1. LOL I can completely understand Fixr if he was overwhelmed with something that affected his life. And the customers only give a shit about their radios and how fast they can get them back.

I should say that after that, I focused more on restoring radios that were somewhat working or easy fixes. I restored AM BCB transistor, tube, CB radios, and even microphones. And no one bugs me anymore.

I should say that after that, I focused more on restoring radios that were somewhat working or easy fixes. I restored AM BCB transistor, tube, CB radios, and even microphones. And no one bugs me anymore. Back in the day (before fatherhood) when I was working on radios for the locals, I had a fair amount of regular business. When you undercut the closest shops by 50%, you're guaranteed a steady stream of work. But when it's not your full time job, and you can spend only a few hours here and there, sometimes it can take a while to knock them out. I used to "triage" the work. Stuff that was simple got knocked out quickly, the more complicated stuff had to wait until I had more time to spend troubleshooting. Some people understood...... Others did not. But I finally had to give it up, because there was just not enough hours in the day. Assuming there is still a strong following in 7 years when I retire, I might get back into it again (A retiree can never have too much supplemental income). But I'll probably specialize in restorations of old tube and pre-40 channel solid state rigs......
