It appears my MarkIII has a failed mode switch. The transmit meter Tends to get pegged in the mod mode when I key. But in SSB I can set the bias fine... strange
But how would I by-pass the mode switch ? Can I do this And not have to replace it?
Anyone know the cost to ya e someone replace it? I know the Part alone is $80 bucks.
Thanks guys!

I just did one in a mkivA. Same switch. Took my time and many pics. Also drew pictures and asked many questions to the gurus. Not as bad as I thought. But not for the beginner unless you have confidence.

I also marked some of the colored wires that there were more than 1 of the same color with different color markers on both ends so I knew where each one went. First you build the switch. What I mean by that is you copy all the jumpers from the old switch to the new switch using buss wire. Also put the 2 new resistors on the new switch and the long buss wires that go to the board. Then you begin the wire transfer. And of course this is if you want to replace it. I know its been asked before about jumping it out for AM only but never really saw anybody post a way to do it.
I thought about buying the same color wire and pre wiring a switch so all you would need to do is snip a wire. Splice the new one to the old with some heat shrink and so on. But I have seen so many of the same radio using different colored wires in the same spot that I figured that would not be a good idea. Better to look at where the old one comes off and transfer it to the same spot on the new switch. If you can solder, And you have patience, And you take your time , It can be done in 3 to 4 hours. I did it over several days.

A good way to do a check of the mode switch to catch it before it lets loose and does more damage to the radio is, take off the bottom panel of the transmitter. Lay it on its side. Shut off all the lights in the room. Use the radio and watch the wafers closely. Use it in all 3 modes for a while. If no lightning you might be ok for a while. But if you do this every so often you can catch it before it let's go. If you see the slightest bit of arcing when in TX shut it down .
