So I bought an EMF detector today , and I immediately started checking out some things around the house . Of course the typical things set it off ... outlets , the microwave , the modem , the computers .... etc , etc .
But the thing that surprised me was the power supply that I've been using to run my main radio . The EMF was picking it up 3 to 4 feet away from the power supply , from in front of the desk ... and it was detecting it all the way around my desk , and above my desk . Keep in mind my desk is 4 feet wide , and it detected the power supply 6 inches away from both sides of it . As soon as I shut off the power supply , it stopped .
This thing is covering a larger area with EMF , than my microwave does . Does anyone know exactly how bad it can be for a person to be exposed to that much EMF for HOURS everyday ?
This thing was easily covering a 5ft X 5ft square area ... side to side , front to back ... and above .

Sounds like you have a switching power supply. They put off all kind of stuff but I don't know if it's harmful to you but it can cause lots of birdies across many radio bands.

Actually Six Shooter , it's a Regulated Power Supply .... it's a 20 Amp Pyramid PS-21KX . It sits on the bottom shelf of my desk (near the floor , towards the front). So it was covering the entire circumference of my desk area , and my whole body was always sitting right in it .
I switched my radio over to my MFJ 25 Amp Switching Power Supply because it's only emitting a little EMF near the power switch .

I use a laptop ... and it only emits a tiny amount of EMF right where the power jack is at , and no place else . That Pyramid puts out a ton of EMF , covering a large area ... and I have no idea why . It's always been a good working power supply for me .

Pyramid power supplies are low priced for a reason. They may put out the 13.8 volts that you need, but like most low priced supplies, they can also put out all kinds of hash. They will work for many people until they get into a demand for finer receiving.
