Were there any older all transistor bases that had good receive audio close to a Browning or Tram?

Were there any older all transistor bases that had good receive audio close to a Browning or Tram? Well, the SBE Trinidad had great receive fidelity, owning to the acoustics of the large empty space behind the speaker which provided for a fuller sound. But transistor radios pretty much lack the warmth of tubes.

Agreed. That was the first CB I ever owned and it did have great audio. Picked it up on ebay for only $20. One on there now listed for $90. Way to high! Wish I kept mine!

The older first solid-state made before about 1973 did not use those distortion producing op-amps in the audio change. CB has no documentation of op-amp use, but audio amplifiers are well documented. So, I can come up with a date op-amps were not used in any electronics including CB radio. The early op-amps were poor sounding. A CB radio is less forgiving vs an audio amp due to all the background noise on medium to poor signals. Not bad sounding op-amps were made in about 2005 and newer and these are audio grade that CB radios likely have never used. So, look for a pre 1973 solid-state base with the built-in 4" or 3x5 inch speaker. The Teaberry Big T makes nice audio. Any tube type CBs makes excellent and ultra clear audio. Tubes are a little better than solid-state. But, get a noise limiter on a tube CB. If you have a lot of man mode noise in your area, no noise limiter can kill all but the strongest signals.
So, what year of manufacture is your radio? For the most part a 'google' search shows nothing. The old Allied, Lafayette and Radio Shack catalogs on line will show pre 1973 solid-state CBs. CB Tricks also has old advertising in their archives. Here is a partial list of pre 1973 solid-state CB radios with a noise limiter.
Lafayette HB-600, Telestat 924 and Telestat SSB-25. Note the mechanical filters in the HB-600 and 924 can fail. The SSB-25 has a crystal filter. Radio Shack TRC-49 and Americana 23 Plus. Teaberry Big T. Midland 13-880. These show up once in a while on eBay.
