6BQ5 for audio service perform about the same due to low audio frequencies. But, for RF high frequency amplification the brand of 6BQ5s differ a lot. You can replace a 6BQ5 in your radio and go from 4 watts carrier with a 12 watt peak to 2 watts and 5 watt peak using the wrong brand. Tuning the RF output capacitors can help, but may not totally fix the reduced output. An example is the Cobra Cam 88. It only works well with a Made in Japan 6BQ5. So, replace your 6BQ5 with the same brand of existing old tube in your radio. As for Japanese 6BQ5, most Raytheon in the modern red and white box were Made in Japan. You can usually see 'Japan' on the glass.
