Greetings radio folks. I have a question about how to get an old CB radio working. I found my wife's grandfather's TRC-411 which was probably never used.
I wanted to see if the frequency was still in the correct range and sort of guessed how to do it. I wrapped a coil of wire around the coax going to the antenna and put it on my scope.
The scope says it's 27.147 Mhz and blips to 26.66 Mhz about every 1 second then stabilizes. Makes no difference what channel I'm on. I tried adjusting what I think is the variable capacitor to the crystal but it makes no change to the frequency.
The reason I think I'm adjusting the correct part, is that I found a video by a UK engineer working on a similar radio. Also, the cap is very close to the crystal and the frequency divider chip in a shielded area.
I'd like to try repairing this thing b/c I haven't done a project a very long time and I'd like to learn about radios in general.
Cheers
