Um, for one thing the original mike cord had a robust, thick ground shield. It wraps around the last turn of the relief spring and solders to it. The setscrew in the body of the mike plug keeps this ground connection tight.
If your cord has a wimpy shield, this can create a shock hazard if it were to break inside the plug later on.
You'll need to know which color wire in the mike cord is the audio. Should be the one with the shield wrapped around it. This gets stripped and soldered inside pin 1.
The wire that goes to ground for transmit gets stripped and soldered to the inside of pin 2.
One good thing about a mike with a body that's all plastic is there's no shock hazard. The all-metal D104 mike will zing you a good one if the ground connection in the cord fails and you touch grounded metal while you key it.
When this happens, the radio won't key up but you will.
