Owning a 40 Channel vintage SSB/AM CB Base radio is very cool. Back years ago from 1977 to about 1990 manufactures went all out in designing these CB Base radios for looks and great operation. These CB BASE radios were much fancier appearing than Ham radios in the same era. I never seen wood panels on a Ham radio. In fact many older CBs have a better receiver vs some older Ham radios. Thus, today these vintage 40 Channel SSB/AM Base radios are collectable. Looking on eBay for an operating vintage SSB/AM 40 channel base radio, the average sale price is about $450. Cobra 2000s usually cost more. The other Cobra models are at that average of $450. Teaberry, Royce and Robyn are about the same price. Wards, Lafayette are a little less cost. GE Super Base are about $500. Two years ago an operating Uniden Washington CB was about $120. I see prices up about 300% from 2 years ago and prices will go higher. For 'parts only' radios on eBay the prices are lower, of course. But if needing a repair a CB shop repair cost will bring up the cost to an operating radio. You can take a chance on a 'parts only' CB radio, but better know what DeOxit is used for. For a plastic sealed relay, burn a hole in the plastic case with a solder pencil to access the relay contacts. Quite a few 'for parts' radios will operate after the switches, relays and potentiometers are cleaned with DeOxit in my experience. Some sellers on eBay will specifically state what is wrong with the radio such as transmit does not work. Unless you are a tech, I would avoid those radios. Frankly, due to reliability and cost of vintage 40ch Bases with AM/SSB, I would buy a new Galaxy DX 2547 for same price.
