Frankly the old school SS CB sets do not work. In fact SS is way more unreliable than Tube type CB radios. I would only buy old CB SS radios if new in box. Only exception is Uniden Washington CBs that were built to about year 2000. President Washington are much older- avoid.

I'm not sure what you consider old school 23ch SSB radios, but I have a 60's 2ch EFJ, a '71 Telsat 25A, and a 1970 Midland 13-880b that work great as long as they're maintained. The midland was my first, but my favorite is the lafayatte 25A
