Continuing story on my Tram D-201A recap. I moded this radio to transmit using the info from CB trick's and it does transmit through the manual vfo when the xtal channel selector is on Channel's 5 through 12. I have another Tram D-201A that (As far as i can tell) has the same mod from CB trick's and this other D-201A transmit's on ANY channel on the Xtal channel selector. Any one ran into this before.? Here is the mod from CB trick's i used.... cbtricks.org/pub/secret_cb/vol_03/graphics/secret_cb_vol_03_pg22_23.pdf

Also, for your VFO mod issue there are better mods than the one you posted which is from the old CB Secrets Book. Search this forum for "Tram D201A vfo" and you will find 2600's mod which will also unlock the clarifier for transmit. It is the best one there is for this radio.

I performed the VFO manual mod suggested and this D-201A i recapped now work's as followed. Manual VFO set to 27.385 Xtal Manual switch set to Manual Xtal control set to Channel's 1 to 4, I transmit and recieve on 27.295 Xtal control set to Channel's 5 to 8, I transmit and recieve on 27.345 Xtal control set to Channel's 9 to 12, I transmit and recieve on 27.385 Xtal control set to Channel's 13 to 16, I transmit and recieve on 27.445 Xtal control set to Channel's 17 to 20, I transmit and recieve on 27.495 Xtal control set to Channel's 21 to 25, I transmit and recieve on 27.545 Xtal control set to Channel's 26 to 30, I transmit and recieve on 27.595 Xtal control set to Channel's 31 to 35, I transmit and recieve on 27.645 Xtal control set to Channel's 36 to 40, I transmit and recieve on 27.695 Is this normal for this mod? grumpy.proboards.com/thread/7831/tram-d201a-mod-transmit-vfoThe 2nd Tram D-201A i have will transmit on the same freq marked on the VFO (Manual) regardless of that Xtal channel i have selected. If this selection of channels after the mod posted is normal for that mod, then it is the way i'll do it. TIA Scott Colorado

Yep...
The VFO is mixed with one of the 16 MHz crystals to obtain the 21 MHz local oscillator frequency that branches off to the receiver and transmit mixer circuits.
The stock setup would bypass the channel selector, and place the channel 9-12 crystal in the circuit when using Manual mode. This serves to keep the VFO's dial markings correct.
Once the above mod is done, the choice of 16 MHz crystal that will mix with the VFO is now determined by the crystal selector setting. Choose 9,10,11 or 12 and the VFO dial should be correct. But for each 4 channels (50 kHz) you go above or below those four channels, the radio's operating frequency moves up or down that multiple of 50 kHz. This makes life easier for someone who wants to operate a few channels below channel 1.
