There are 2 different Mark ll receivers that I know of. The series A had the Collins filter with a fine tune control on the front. The series B didn’t have the Collins filter and was replace with 2 IF transformers and had a bandspread control on front. Which receiver is better? I hear so much stuff about the Collins filter being better.

I have a personal fondness for the Collins mechanical filter. But the K-Tran IF transformers are an unacceptable failure liability. As such I have stayed away from servicing a Mark 2 receiver since Barkett permanently ran out of the improved 455 kHz IF transformers with the hollow tuning slugs. Don't have to decide between replacing just the one that fails and a scorched earth replacing them all. That was a dilemma until they became unavailable.
The "K-Tran" IF transformer if you haven't encountered it before is easy to identify. Instead of hex-shaped hole 1/10 of an inch across in the ferrite tuning slug you'll see a screwdriver slot looking down into it from above. They tend to fail without warning. Receiver sensitivity falls way, way off and the failed IF transformer will no longer exhibit a peak when tuned.

Do the series B receivers have the K-Tran transformers? Also, what about the original Golden Eagle receiver? K-Tran also?

Yeah. The Mark 3 receiver was the first one to use the improved hollow-slug IF cans. The very-earliest Mark 3 will have one or two of them, but that stopped after the first couple of years.
