FYI, Spew Radio IV was down for a bit. Now back better than ever with video S meter and frequency display. I added RAM baby to my computer. Should run much smoother. 441

Or if that's not working, try Here. Another CRR in the log book. It was a laid back local affair last night. I ran my Metrotek Pacer. Bare bones, warm tube audio, radio. To all that check in via Spew, I apoligize that the streamer is not up during CRR lately. I just need to set up another computer. As you may know (or not) Hytower has been checkin in using my network/remote control Kenwood. A whole new experience, a Canadian local!? That takes a lot of processor power. People are going to think skip is rolling when Hytower Montreal is talking with Spitfire PA. LOL In the meantime Sandbaggers original Spew is up during CRR, mine will be up at all other times. Soon I will have a computer dedicated just for Spew radio. Thanks for your patience.

Dave... is the Classic Radio Roundup still being held every Wednesday? I see nothing has been posted in this section in months so I thought I would check!
Thanks

Thanks The wednsday CRR is still alive and well. I guess we have been lax in reporting the goings on. We have fun with the old classics and some area regulars that enjoy a couple hours of ol' time CB radio fun. This past week we had a pair of Browning MKIII's and a Tram D201A check in. The summer skip has been making it hard to hear anyone without a big signal. Alas no skip checkins.

Yea, I guess that's my fault. I used to write up a quick summary of the week's roundup activity back when things were first getting started. Then when activity fell off a bit, I stopped writing. But yes, like Pete said, we're still in there every Wednesday night. The number of check-ins has fallen off a bit, but we still have a core group of locals who keep things going. Unfortunately, we also still have a few malcontents out there who occasinally try to disrupt the fun, and lately the skip has been running which makes it a little rough. So you never know what you might find. The audio servers are still up most of the time for those who want to listen in.
On the restore bench, I currently have my Lafayette Telsat SSB 50a, which I'm trying to get a slightly weak receive up to par. I'm also still working on the acoustic hum issue on my Tram Titan. But that hasn't been high on the priority list.
I'm still looking for a Lafayette Telsat SSB 25 in decent shape for a good price, and possibly a Realistic TRC-40 Navaho Pro, just for the fun of it.

Spitfire 441,
I had a 5-6 S unit noise level plus all the splatter from channel 6. Hopefully it will be quieter next week.

This week's CRR was a bit of a zoo. First off both Pete and I were late kicking things off, then the skip was giving us S9-Heterodyne. Then to add salt to the wound, our even present fan club of Chester County Children were attempting to jam us with some sort of siren. I did catch Fixr OT-480 briefly in the DX, but the conditions were constantly changing. He was in there strong at S9, then a minute later he was being covered up by someone else. I heard him acknowlege me at one point, but then I lost him in the crud.
I was running my "rough" Royce 1-640, and Pete was running a Realistic TRC-441. Night Train showed up a little later running a Robyn T-240. I could'nt tell if any of our further out locals were in there due to the heterodyne. Hopefully, next week will be better....
Oh well, until next time.

Sandbagger, I couldn't find the page where you said you were starting up a roundtable on 10 meters on Sunday nights. I listened on 28.412 MHZ for awhile and all I could hear was open air, I don't know if you had the roundtable but I didn't think that I would be able to copy you guys.

It was an interesting CRR. Thanks to Fixr and DQRR for checking in to the Round-Up. Both Sanbagger and myself were on Browning MKIII as was Fixr. And Tim was on a MKIV. I don't think DQRR heard me, I did hear you on that Tram! Spitfire 441

Wow! What a difference a week makes..... Yes, last night's CRR was quite a bit more interesting and fun than last week. It would seem that we all had the same idea, as it became obvious right away that this was going to be Browning night. It was like a trip through the wayback machine to hear those pings lighting up the channel. And of course, Brownings are DX magnets as all sorts of stations started lining up to work the "birds" with those pings. Pete had just finished working OT-480 Fixr when I flipped my MKIII on, and heard both guys also running Brownings. I knew I had made the right choice to fire mine up that night. My decision was based on the probability that the skip would be high and I wanted something with a little more audio punch. Soon after Pete finished working Alan, I threw the beam around to the west and said hello myself. Then a station in Tennessee said hello, and not too long afterward DQRR, OT-457 started calling. I managed to say hello before conditions started moving around to the north. Soon we were working Canadian stations, and listening to an obvious country grandma having a local conversation in her area, in a style which brought me back to the mid 70's. A nice young lady from Nova Scotia gave me a call, but no sooner did I exchange a few pleasantries, when the conditions shifted again and I lost her. On the local scene, besides Pete and myself, Tim came in there a little later running his Browning MKIV. We also had our fan club of turkeys trying to soar with the eagles briefly. But after a little fine tuning of the null on my beam, we kept on talking right through the sound effects and lame attempts at jamming. Eventually they got the message and left.
All in all, it was a very old school fun night. And that's what Classic Radio Roundup is all about.

OT-457 DQRR, I heard you for a very short time and then you was gone. Hopefully conditions will be better next time. OT-441 Spitfire's MKIII's sounded very good. I didn't get a chance to hear OT-2632 Sandbagger's MKIII's very long because the conditions changed. I did hear you guys occasionally throughout the evening. I also heard a couple of Canadian stations trying to check in. The MKIII's I was using belong to an OP in the Lancaster area. I will be taking them back to him next week on my annual trip to PA.

Hey Fixr, when you come through Pa. you'll probably be running the turnpike. If you are give a shout on 26.925 when you cross the Ohio line and keep trying well past the first exit, I believe it's Beaver Valley. We just might hookup. If you can't raise me call for Bandit or Sleepy, they both have high elevations and could relay for us but I can usually make a decent shot in that direction. If you're going to be on route 80 I won't hear you but those other guys should.

It was a fun Ham rig roundup sunday. Too bad conditions were marginal for DX. I like running my TS700a on HF. It has one hot RX. The 500w PEP doesn't hurt either. Time to take a look at the Swan to see if I can get power on 10m. I gotta have more than one operational HF classic rig.

Last nights round-up was a bit slow. I worked some DX stations, no OT"s. Sandbagger is off in the wilderness camping. So Hytower and myself held down the frequency. Amazeingly enough no jammers...but then Firestarter was in Florida. I had my Browning MKIII out barking.

Last night's roundup was a blast. The frequent E-layer skip, which had been junking up the local airwaves finally decided to give us a break last night, and we were able to have a more "laid-back local" roundup. The turnout was good with 8 people checking in from the local area. We had a DAK 9, a Shakespere 740, a Robyn T-240, and a Hy-Gain 623 as part of the classic radio stable. With those rigs in attendance, the theme for the night was "hybrid" - radios with both tube and solid state circuits. Each of these classics is hybrid. The Shakespere and Robyn (basically identical Panasonic-made radios), were tube TX and RX, with a solid state PLL 40 channel synthesizer. The DAK and the Hy-Gain were all solid state except for the final RF output (and driver tube on the DAK).
I'll be away (again!) on vacation next week, so it'll be up to Pete to keep the party going......

Fixer The conditions were not in very strong in our area. We had a mostly skip-free night. I did hear a couple of southern states briefly on a couple other channels when I spun the dial, but 13 was pretty clear Wednesday night.

Lastnights CRR was another laid back local affair. We had a good time until about 9pm when the jammer finally got around to us. Besides that grasser, we had a Browning MKIV,a Robyn 123b and 240D as well as my Shakespere 740.
