From my perspective, saturday works better than friday. Friday here is usually reserved for the honey night. Saturday I am just getting up and having coffee. I don't have to leave for work untill 11 pm.

Or a different one every week........ Hopefully all of those radios have unlocked clarifiers. Otherwise we're liable to have people all over the place.

I don't have to leave for work untill 11 pm. I originally picked Friday, since I knew you didn't have to work. But Saturday works just as well for me (maybe even better). Anyone object to Saturday night 9:00 - whenever?

yea leave us know .i voted for saturday as i hardly even have time to turn the radio on .on fridays It's looking like we'll give the SSB roundup a trial run on this coming Saturday night on channel 16. The streaming audio will be there as with the AM roundup. Now all I have to do is pick which radio I'm going to use.....

OK, so we have....
This Saturday, March 29th Starting @ 9pm EST. Frequency 27.155 Lower Sideband Tonight's the night! The first installment of the (hopefully!) weekly Classic SSB Radio Roundup. For those who are planning to check in, I would suggest turning on your radios at least a half hour before we start so they have some time to settle down. I'm sure we don't want to spend the first hour playing "chase the clarifier". I will also have the streaming audio server on-line for those who aren't close enough to check-in. See you at 9:00.

This has been fun all night!... I can hear Spitfire direct, most of the time. That CPI sounds super down here in South Jersey (Cumberland Co.)

The first installment of the SSB CRR was a hit. I had a blast. Farthest check in was again Crazy Bob. A close second would be Double K in Lancaster Co. Also Heard from Flemington and Bridgeton(?) NJ. Over 13 check-ins in the first hour. It seems another night of the week for some good radio fun. Thanks to all who made the first SSB CRR a success. Sorry to those I may not have heard. Also a special thanks to those listening to our fun on Spew Radio.

I had a really high noise level, almost like a tone last night. The only one that I knew was in there was Crazy Bob, but I couldn't hear him enough to make out what he was even saying It is really strange that I can hear and talk to Bob and Bill on channel 31 just fine, and a lot of times that is with the Browning barefoot. But I can never hear or reach you guys in Pottstown. There must be something in between blocking us!
Anyway... let me know if this is going to be a regular event on Saturday nights and I will change the banner!

A couple of thoughts and observations: First, I missed the beginning, due to family activities, so I probably missed the best part. I just set up the monitor radio on center slot and hoped for the best. By the time I was able to get in there, people started dropping off. But it was still fun. I'm surprised that we weren't able to hook up better with Crazy Bob. During the AM roundup, we can usually hear Bob fairly well, and he can sometimes hear us as well. (Make sure that beam is just a smidge to the west of North Bob). I figured that SSB would make it an armchair copy situation. I could hear Bob a bit better, but he still seemed to have problems hearing us. Might be local interference? I have a ton of work to do to make my station ready for more Classic SSB roundups. I had a ton of problems with short delays on both my amp and my homemade radio switchbox that I use to run both my operating radio and the monitor radio on the same antenna. Every time I talked, those two boxes would chatter like a set of castanets. I need to work on getting a longer delay in there. The bypass box rapid switching also made my audio all broken up and distorted over the streamer unless I turned the RF gain way down. I was pleased that most people were able to tune in on frequency and stay there. There were a few rigs with locked transmit clarifiers that were a little off, but not too many. I also want to thank Pete for MC'ing the event in my absence (Not that anyone really needs to do that but it sounds more "official"). But since I missed the beginning, I only picked up a handful of the rigs being used. I heard 2 Tram D201's, Tim switched between a few different radios, including a Pierce Simpson Simba, and a GE Superbase. Heard a President Washington and a Cobra 142. Pete ran the CPI-2000. Not sure what Crazy Bob was running. There were also a few guys running "newer" Galaxy's and a Northpoint. I was running my Cobra 135. I was quite pleased with how that radio worked. Some of you listening to the streamer might have heard a series of annoying tones in the beginning, for the first 1/2 hour or so. That was due to some bleed from 15A, as one of my neighbors was running some remote control car or such. Not so coincidently, it seemed to disappear shortly after I got in there ;D To Grumpy's interference issue, I have had similar "tones" on 16 and I've traced it to harmonics from my networking and computer stuff. It's much less now since I have a beam mounted 50' away from the house. It was a fun night though and it was a great turnout for the first time. I had as many as 10 check-ins on the streamer, which is as good as we usually get on the AM net. I think it's probably a keeper for a little while anyway. As long as we get people wanting to participate........

Hello all, as it is that the summer activities have made me miss the last two SSB CRR's, i could not miss three in a row. I may miss next saturday too. I have a good excuse for that one. Motorcycles always first and radio second. Next saturday is Lansdale Bike Night. It is the largest one day motorcycle event in the country. It is a good place to show off my classic BSA 441 single. Last nights SSB CRR was a laid back local affair. That was good for me. I got a chance to test out a new antenna system. I am now using two co-phased aluminum 5/8 GP antennas at 40' and about 5/8 wavelenth apart. From a good two day test, and after last nights test with Sandbagger, I have to say this setup SMOKES! It beats out my PDL-II for gain, not rejection though. It is definately better than one 5/8 GP. Last nights rig, CPI CP 2000 and Hy-Gain Co-Phaser. (follow link) Yea, I have to apologize for the audio server being down for anyone who might have tried to tune in. It would seem that my ISP is playing games with me. They're now changing my IP address every week, which required me to change the link to the server. I'm not sure if they're doing this across the board, or whether they caught wind that I was running a server (which they frown upon). I'm going to look into using DDNS or some other method to eliminate my having to update links every week. I'll ask Grumpy to change the link here to just point to my web site's server page, so only one link will need to be updated for now.

Hello, I get noise on channel 16 if I am using my cordless mouse, it puts about a s9 on my meter. It must be runnin a couple milliwatts, if I could step it up to key my amp in the mobile I could do some dx net scrollin. Spitfire 441 that is a super nice looking radio, I don't think I have ever seen a CPI that was turned on. It has a 7-digit frequency counter, very nice. How does it do on ssb?

The CPI is probably one of the best designed SSB CB radios ever made. The modulation comes up a little short on AM, but it's a great sidebander's rig.
