Hi, I have an A99 set up. I want to set up a second antennawhich i already bought, a maco 3 elemtnet beam. Does anyone know the performance of these beam for range in tx and rx. what is the typical range of these beams, and how do they work in DX conditions. My A-99 is up 39 feet to the bottom and on average on local talk I get out and recieve25 to 30 miles and under good conditions 40 to 45 miles, thanks 73's

From information that I've gathered the Maco three element beam works well on RX and TX and is lightweight. Almost any beam will out perform an omni directional antenna.

The advantage is that MOST of your signal is directed in one direction. So you will hear or talk further, but only in the direction you are pointed. You will get less of a signal from those to the sides or the rear of the antenna. So if you are talking fairly local, the A99 will work best. To reach a further distance or for DX, the beam is going to outperform the A99 many times over. 65

I think i can give an idea about the Maco-103. I have been running one for years and my friends call it a ground plane on steroids. I am 90 miles from Los Angeles in the city of Victorville, CA i talk to my friends on the Super Bowl daily and hammer hard and with good ears as well. The only disadvantage will be it is a single polarity antenna. This antenna will take 2kw and has a flat match as well.
Put it together like the instructions say and kick ass! Best of luck, MOTORCROSS

Your friends are correct, A maco 103 or any other bem for that matter is like an omni directional on steroids, That;s the idea. plust the beams goives you more gain in the forward direction and blocks unwanted signals the omni directonal would allow. The more elements. The more gain and more side and read signal direction. I've got a maco 103 and for the money it's a great antenna.
